The next chapter in the ALDOC story begins this autumn, as the genre-defying Irish group release their brand new single KOBOKO on November 7th, followed by a special headline show in Whelan’s, Dublin, on Sunday November 23rd.
Formed by Alan Doherty, best known as frontman of the internationally acclaimed band Gráda and for his contribution to the Lord of the Rings soundtrack, ALDOC fuse Irish roots with a global sound. After relocating from Tallaght, Ireland to Halle in eastern Germany, Alan spent two years creating music inspired by new cultural experiences and a lifetime of touring. The result was the band’s debut album From Tallaght to Halle, featuring the track Takaka Rain, instantly familiar to Croke Park crowds as the teams’ entrance music since 2017.
Since their debut album, ALDOC have toured Ireland, India, New Zealand, and across Europe, releasing two acclaimed singles: Distance (2020) and Mugle (2023).
Showcasing the musical talents of Alan Doherty (Gráda, Kíla, Damien Dempsey, Dan McCabe), Fiach Moriarty (Horslips, Beoga, Declan O’Rourke), and Alex Borwick (Sam Fender, Lankum, James Vincent McMorrow), ALDOC are one of the most unusual and exciting bands to emerge from Ireland in many years. The band’s live performances also feature drummer Shay Sweeney, adding a dynamic rhythmic edge to their sound.
Their new single KOBOKO marks a bold new direction, blending a gritty, contemporary urban soundscape with the raw power of Dublin spoken word artist and former All-Ireland Poetry Slam Champion Colm Keegan.
The Whelan’s launch show on November 23rd promises to be an unforgettable night, a double celebration as trombonist Alex Borwick makes his return to the stage following a life-threatening road accident earlier this year.
“I’m grateful to be getting back on my feet and making some music with the guys again,” says Alex. “It’s food for the soul, and a big milestone on my road to recovery.”
“It was a revelation to hear ALDOC, they were scintillating.” – Christy Moore
“I regard Alan Doherty as one of Ireland’s foremost traditional flute players.” – Matt Molloy
“Glorious music that creates its own genre – playful, exuberant, virtuosic; a joy to listen to!” – Jim Lockhart
