Caddy Callaghan is a Melbourne-based singer-songwriter, pianist and multi-instrumentalist whose music is defined by emotional honesty, classic pop/rock sensibilities and heartfelt storytelling. Her new heart-wrenching single “Wait A Minute” is the fourth release from her upcoming debut solo album, There You Are and captures the emotions of longing for a love that feels both destined and impossible. Dramatic yet tender, the song is a brave, sorrowful and a beautiful expression of yearning.
Written and performed by Caddy, “Wait A Minute” was recorded and produced in Nashville by acclaimed Australian artist and producer Rick Price. Driven by soulful vocals that ooze emotion, “Wait A Minute” unfolds with echoing instrumentation that feels both nostalgic and melancholy, accompanied by a guitar solo from the talented Mark Punch that feels as though it’s singing back in response. The track emphasises her commitment to real instruments, timeless production and emotional depth. This authenticity can also be heard in her songwriting with Caddy sharing, “For me, songwriting is mostly like a journal entry with rhythm, rhyme and metre. I write from a heart state. It’s deeply personal, vulnerable and cathartic.”
A songwriter for over thirty years, Caddy’s work has been praised as “moving and majestic,” earning her an Australian Songwriters Association Award, national radio support from ABC, and mentorship through Melbourne’s prestigious Tuesday Night Song Club led by Mark Seymour, Liz Stringer and Charles Jenkins. Influenced by the likes of Billy Joel, Bonnie Raitt, Michael McDonald and Madonna, she brings vulnerability, warmth and melodic richness to everything she creates.
Balancing life as a mother of three with her career as an independent artist and head of Cadwyn Clare Records, Caddy began recording There You Are in Nashville in 2022. A serious arm injury, the pandemic, and family life shaped the album’s long and deeply personal journey. This story mirrors the resilience, faith and courage which is woven throughout all her songs.
