Multi-award winning independent festival Bearded Theory returns to its idyllic homeland of Catton Park, Derbyshire next week on the 21-25th May for yet another year of inspirational, community driven, grassroots festivities. Set in the picturesque setting of the National Forest, the festival boasts a myriad of musical, educational and creative activities across the weekend.
Today the festival shares its day splits, revealing English Teacher are to headline the first night of celebrations on Thursday, followed by Paul Heaton with special guest Rianne Downey on Friday, Iggy Pop on Saturday and Manic Street Preachers closing the festival on the Sunday.
They are joined by The Sisters of Mercy, Leftfield, Yard Act, The Mary Wallopers, Ash, Nova Twins, Fat Dog, Divorce, Nadine Shah, Katy J Pearson, Ezra Furman, and many more, including but not limited to Mannequin Pussy, Terrorvision, The Lottery Winners, Antony Szmierek, The Alarm, The Vaselines, Gurriers, Lime Garden, Man/Woman/Chainsaw, The Lovely Eggs, Bess Atwell, ARXX, Dream State, CLT DRP, Gaye Bykers on Acid and Asian Dub Foundation.
In the devastation of Mike Peters of The Alarm’s passing, Bearded Theory will be commemorating his legacy through hosting a listening party of his works in the The Knockerdown during the weekend, while folk punk band Headsticks will be stepping in to fill The Alarm’s Thursday slot, as well as performing as originally scheduled on the Wednesday.
DAY SPLITS HERE
Rough Trade will be joining the festival this summer. Their tent on site will house a specially curated selection of vinyl, books and merch, as well as being the festival’s official merch store, and they'll be hosting some amazing guest spots for album signings.
Head to the Pallet stage first thing on Sunday for the annual fancy dress competition, in which the winners will be rewarded with tickets for next year’s festival. This year’s theme is ‘Teenage Dreams’. Come and represent your adolescent subcultures, scenes and youth-filled dreams.
Bearded Theory firmly believes that an education should not only exist within the boundaries of a traditional indoor space. For parents with children and teenagers, the festival offers the UK's first innovative on-site Festival School, located in the cherished award-winning Children’s Village, a coveted area of the site cultivated purely to provide a space for creativity, education and fun for children.
Bearded Theory’s wondrously compact site punches above its weight with eight unique stages and areas full of music, dancing and good times. While the main Pallet and Meadow stages showcase some of the biggest sets throughout the weekend, the magical Woodland stage provides an intimate and idyllic setting for folkier sounds and rock sets alike.
