Black Opal Releases Debut Album “Divine Accusations” + Single ‘History’

Belfast-based rock band Black Opal has released their debut album Divine Accusations, featuring the radio single History. The four-piece fuses melodic, riff-laden guitar with poignant, biting lyrics, backed by a pulsating rhythm section of guitar, bass, and drums.

Formed in 2022, Black Opal began developing a series of songs that would shape their debut record. Divine Accusations explores themes of love, loss, and the human condition, offering an honest reflection of the band's influences. Their sound pays homage to riff-heavy melodic rock, with nods to the classic sounds of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, alongside the grunge and indie Britpop of the 90s, underlined by punk’s raw, DIY spirit.

Their first two singles, Beautiful Confusion and Feel Free, garnered global airplay, increasing visibility and streams while receiving strong positive feedback.

Musical Identity and Line-Up

Lead guitarist Shane Diamond, whose songwriting is rooted in intricate chord progressions and ambitious arrangements, draws inspiration from Johnny Marr, John Squire, Mark Knopfler, and Neil Young. Shane, along with bassist Phil McCabe—both former members of The Mill—reunited in 2022 with a desire to collaborate on something new. Their longstanding musical chemistry led them to bring in Dee McCann (vocals, guitar) and Sean "Loguey" Logue (drums, backing vocals) to complete the line-up.

With unwavering self-belief, Black Opal continues to gig and build their presence in the local and national music scene.
