Brighton emo two-piece H_ngm_n release anthemic single ‘Ghosts’ & announce details on their debut album
The final glimpse into H_ngm_n’s long-awaited debut full-length, ‘Ghosts’ serves as the sequel to the band’s 2018 track ‘Ghost’. An ode to finding your place when every step feels out of sync, its swirling guitars and cathartic choruses are anchored in the push and pull of light and dark, searching for brightness in a world that so often feels misaligned.
At once restless and resolute, it captures the turbulence of doubt whilst being carried forward by flickers of connection. Rounding out the album with a much-needed dose of hope and resilience, it’s a widescreen anthem for everyone navigating life’s uncertainties with a steadfast refusal to give in.
That same feeling is woven throughout the unshakeably human world of ‘Paper Street’, the debut album from the Brighton duo. A document of unfinished plans, fractured trust, unrealised dreams and unsteady foundations, it distils years of restlessness and resilience into a formidably tight batch of brutally honest, hook-laden rock songs.
Named after the term for a street that exists only on maps - planned but never built - it’s a record that wrestles with the tension between who we are and who we hope to become. Featuring previous singles ‘Reach Out’, ‘Spotlight’, ‘No Place Like Home’ and ‘Nothing Personal’, its ten tracks unpick the ache of growing older, the weight of good intentions, and the jagged beauty of hopes and dreams that may never come to fruition. Equal parts unflinching and uplifting, it tackles the messy, bittersweet truths of adulthood with open-hearted candour and unstoppable energy.
Ultimately, it’s a reminder to keep striving for something better, no matter how hard the world tries to kick you down.
Offering up a cathartic exploration of overthinking, overdrinking, and grappling with growing older, their gritty style of emo-pop is personal and universal all at once. Merging the blistering rawness of modern emo with the explosive energy of early 2000’s pop-punk, the result is a seamless blend of nostalgia and modernity, unpicking the harsh realities of life’s complications within irresistibly catchy anthems.
The debut album Paper Street is out via Sugar-Free Records on 17th October on 12” vinyl - pre-orders are available here.
