Brighton’s Regal Cheer release sophomore record “Quite Good”

Regal Cheer are a short attention span punk duo from Brighton.

Based in Brighton, Max Cleworth (guitar/vocals) and Harry Menear (drums/vocals) make punk for people with no time to waste.

Channelling the daily gripes of the 9-5 life and relatable depressions, Regal Cheer’s music accompanies the post-work-pint and brings the important things to attention.

In the first year of their conception they released 2 EPs (Side Hustle & Overtime), along with well received covers for different charity compilations.

Kicking off 2023 with a bang, the band released their eagerly anticipated debut album ‘Cans’ in February to rave reviews, earning airplay on Radio 1 and Radio 6.

The passion of Regal Cheer is palpable, with each song propelling forward and feeling as if it might fall apart in the next measure. It’s what I’ll lovingly call drunk-punk, best experienced in a dingy dive bar with your best friends.” - The Alternative on Cans

Regal Cheer released Big Man Little Man, Strike Partnership, released on February 9th 2024 through Everything Sucks Music, with lead single Better Weather Than You cited by Noizze as “A continuation of the immediate indie punk stylings found within the Brighton duo’s brilliant and criminally undersung debut LP Cans, the track bares further credence to Regal Cheer’s wonderful ability to maximise a modest and minimalist set up to its full effect.

2025 will see the release of the bands second album Quite Good, through their own Ugly Twin Recs. The album covers themes from societal pressures we’re expected to accept as the norm, mental health and the breaking down of relationships, both platonic and otherwise.

Punktastic on Quite Good

“‘Quite Good’ is impressive in how much is achieved with so little. Regal Cheer are delivering stripped back punk in the same vein that PUP opened so successfully over a decade ago. Given its sparse instrumentation, Regal Cheer have chosen minimalist depth rather than a broad, expansive soundscape. There’s no fat to trim here. Every song has its place on the record, and the music is set to work on the themes of communication, conversation, and postmodern anxiety just as much as the vocals. It’s their best recorded work to date, perfectly capturing their infectious live energy and showing that when all artifice is stripped away, what’s left behind is heart.”

The Brighton band have been playing live since 2021, with shows up and down the UK, sharing lineups with the likes of Martha, Tigers Jaw, One Step Closer, Pest Control, Fresh & Muncie Girls, demonstrating how their approachable short and snappy punk is versatile enough to squeeze onto almost any lineup.
