British/Italian artist margomool fuses electronics with elements of jazz and folk on new 2-part single ‘VIVENTE’

British/Italian artist margomool has unveiled their new project, VIVENTE, a new two-part single that marks a bold step into a new electronic sound world. Recorded live, the A/B-side single comprises two new tracks, ‘NOTTE’ and ‘LISTEN’.

Based in South-East London, margomool is a vocalist and producer whose work uniquely fuses jazz-inspired soul with shades of folk and electronic music, painting dream-like sonic worlds that sing to queer existence and empathy as a revolutionary tool. Their practice, rooted in London’s improvisational scene, has seen them collaborate with artists including Allysha Joy & EX Generation, while performing across the UK and Europe at festivals such as Love Supreme and on lineups alongside Sarathy Korwar and Laura Misch. Hailed by The Line of Best Fit as “convention-smashing,” margomool’s projects have earned support from tastemakers Jamz Supernova, Emma-Jean Thackray, and Selector Radio.

VIVENTE (Italian for “living”) embodies both the organic and man-made, exploring how electronic music can breathe, mutate, and expand. “I wanted to bring this imagery into my next project and share something that is recorded live,” says margomool. “VIVENTE explores how electronic music can feel both organic and man-made. It’s also a nod to how our creations keep morphing and expanding. Both tracks include reinterpretations of lyrics/motifs from previous releases. For me, they have now found their true form, but who knows how they will change.”

‘NOTTE’ (meaning “night” in Italian), is a dark, immersive meditation on existential dread and relief. “Deep dark feelings is what the track revolves around,” explains margomool. “It’s about both the dread and relief of realising you’re a speck on a tiny planet that keeps going round and round. The sense of suspension and holding is in the effected saxophone, guitar and BVs, which create a drone-like bath of sound to dive into. The gritty drums and bass are that rush of existential panic. I know we’ve all been feeling it recently with the sad state of the world.”

‘LISTEN’, an expansive, folk-infused techno piece, uses repetition and rhythmic intensity as a form of meditation. “It calls you to tune into different elements of nature and how we interact with the world,” says margomool. “I wanted the track to feel like a folk song and something you could lose yourself to in the club. The repeated choral part against the arpeggiated bass synth and broken beat hi-hat pattern does that for me. Whilst the track opens and ends gently, it builds in intensity, reflecting how being present with our internal and external worlds can be both really beautiful and a lot.”

To celebrate the release of their new single, margomool will be taking their live show around the UK this Autumn with the ambient jazz saxophonist, Efti’s Project.
