Toronto, Canada songwriter JEEN (aka Jeen O’Brien) is proud to announce her new EP, For The Romance, set for release on 30th October 2025.
Recorded at ProGold Studio in Toronto, the EP features instrumentation from Ian Blurton (guitar), Stephan Szczesniak (drums), Anna Ruddick (bass), and Jeen O’Brien (synth, vox, rhythm guitars).
For The Romance was co-produced by Ian Blurton and Jeen O'Brien, mixed by Ian Blurton, and mastered by Brad Boatright at AudioSiege, with additional home demo recordings by Jeen.
JEEN headed into the studio to record the EP in early January 2025, but a couple of months later found herself battling the ever tumultuous corporate ups and downs of the music business for the third time in her solo career, completely derailing proceedings, with the whole release coming to a full stop.
Crushed by the experience, she was about to trash the whole EP and start again, but a change of heart over the summer saw her determined to rise triumphantly from the ashes. No stranger to the challenges facing independent musicians and songwriters, especially as a female solo artist navigating an industry that often preys on the vulnerable, Jeen’s indomitable DIY spirit and relentless work ethic are a testament to both her talent and resilience.
To celebrate the news, lead single ‘Look What You Did’ will be released via all good digital service providers on 1st October 2025.
Commenting on the track, JEEN says: “At the end of the day, it’s a pop song so I just wanted it to be light and easy to sing along with but hopefully still have some teeth. It’s about being entranced by someone or something and following that feeling all the way, even though you can’t see where it will lead yet. I’ve had to learn a lot of hard lessons in this industry and 2025 tested me more than ever on that front, but for the first time in a while, I’m happy I’m still here, even if I have to follow a bit blindly for now”.
A prolific independent artist with over 2 million Spotify streams, JEEN has been quietly flying the flag for Canadian indie music since 2015 with the release of her debut album Tourist. Since then she has released a consistent string of high quality albums including Modern Life (2016), Gift Shop (2018), JEEN (2020), Dog Bite (2021), Tracer (2022) and Gold Control (2024), alongside a whole host of standalone singles.
As a songwriter, JEEN’s work has been sought after for use in major commercials (Google, Panasonic, Estée Lauder, Kraft, BlackBerry, KIA, Rogers, MasterCard, Molson) as well as various movies and television programs (Cook Off, Republic of Doyle, Instant Star, Ruby Gloom, Degrassi, Killjoys, Hockey Wives, Workin’ Moms, MTV’s Catfish, MTV’s Are You the One).
In addition to her solo work, she has also written songs with recording artists Great Big Sea, Serena Ryder, Res, Hawksley Workman, Brendan Canning, FUWA FUWA (j-pop) and Martin “Doc” McKinney, and is a member of the band Cookie Duster, with Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene.
