“Carolyn manages to create a soundscape full of incredible charm” - The Spritz Publication

Carolyn released her pilot single, ‘spaceship’ in November 2024. Behind the artist is Emma Halpin, a 21-year-old singer-songwriter from Greater Manchester (UK) who has found comfort in songwriting ever since she was 11 years old. She set up her first bedroom studio at 13 and began releasing self-produced songs at that time too. She released her first EP ‘This Time Of Year’ in December 2024, a festive project co-written and produced by her former BIMM classmate Isaac Kennedy. The title track, ‘this time of year’, landed Carolyn her first ever radio play on BBC Radio 1’s 100% Christmas show hosted by Jess Iszatt.

Now in 2025, she is collaborating again with Isaac Kennedy on a brand new original project for listeners to dive deeper into the world of Carolyn (with a less festive backdrop). The first single of the new project ‘countertop’, sets the tone as a liberating ballad inspired by the idea of ‘leaving the world on a countertop’. A simple song, first written about not wanting to use her phone anymore, that grew with its production to be interpreted in all kinds of ways whilst emphasising a need for change and diversion.

A word from Carolyn on the track:

“I wrote ‘countertop’ back in February with Isaac Kennedy at his shed studio in Bollington. I had the chorus idea which was all about not wanting to compare myself to other people’s lives online. Comparison is always something I have fought with, especially as I dive further into the music industry, it feels sometimes as if we are encouraged to compare our successes and milestones to that of our peers. This song addresses those feelings quite obviously (no pun intended haha) and i love how people are interpreting its core meaning in all sort of ways, whether that be comparing yourself to who you were a couple years ago, or a random person you follow, or someone who is your age and doing the exact things you have always wanted to do, that’s this song.”
