The Ded Ferrets launch their debut EP “2 Fat 2 Old” on 14 July 2025, containing four slices of life parodying ska music including lead track “Don’t Be Like That” - ably supported by “I Don't Care”, “Brenda” and “9 O’Clock Club”.

The band consists of Nev on lead vocal, keyboards, and bass, Al on guitar and vocals, and Mick on drums and vocals. The three friends all grew up around the council estates of Tameside and having been in various bands separately began gigging together in 2017, playing a mixture of rock, ska, punk and reggae.

Initially placing their unique dark humor and musical spin on crowd pleasing covers, the band started to write their own original material. Informed by the places, the people and the situations they grew up with, the music became an escape and dark therapy that helped them cope with various life traumas affecting the trio, including dementia and a cancer diagnosis.

Nev says “We channel the energy of our live shows and dark humor to cope with previous traumas, which comes out in our music. We don't; sweat the small stuff!”

Al adds “While we enjoy writing and performing great music, we stopped taking ourselves seriously quite some time ago. Our long friendship and the banter that emerges from every rehearsal or recording session generates material for new songs. That same banter comes out in our live performances too.”

The band has played at various local venues in and around Tameside, gaining a dedicated following, which unfortunately stalled due to the double whammy of Al’s cancer diagnosis and the small matter of lock-down.

Emerging from both relatively unscathed, the band picked up where they left off and continue to build on that following.

The launch of the “2 Fat 2 Old” EP signals the next chapter in the growth of the band. Behind the banter, these talented musicians write, produce and record everything themselves, as evidenced in the four slices of energetically played and wryly observed life stories within.
