Hartlepool newcomers Champ share blistering debut single ‘Taste To Run’ (video here), out today (June 17th).
Specialising in making big-hearted, guitar-driven anthems for dreamers in small towns, Champ’s music blends the restless energy of their hometown into soaring, guitar-led stories; channelling the weather-beaten sound of England’s post-industrial coastline into festival-ready anthems.
Born from the ashes of a previous project, the quartet’s sensibilities are rooted in authenticity and emotion - the shimmer of adolescence in their melodies and the bruised tenderness of their lyrics making ordinary life feel cinematic.
Bringing songs of mates, mistakes, late nights, growing up and the characters that defined them, the group’s first single (FFO The War On Drugs, Tame Impala, Wunderhorse) arrives ahead of a series of live shows across the summer/autumn months. Whilst their accompanying single artwork comes with its own story too: a local footrace of around the streets of Hartlepool in the seventies.
Discussing their debut release, frontman Jonny Bee revealed: “‘Taste To Run’ is about that burning desire for wanting something beyond the hand you’ve been dealt, and realising there's no time like the present to go and get it.”
