Clara Kay Announces Debut Single “on Purpose” Releasing May 30th

How do you grieve someone who hurt you – and still blame yourself? That’s the question at the center of Clara Kay’s debut single “On Purpose.” A musical slow burn, the track captures the aftermath of a toxic relationship: first, the looming quiet and loneliness—then the seething anger—then, all at once, the feeble, aching hope that maybe it wasn’t all your fault. It’s both a cry for closure and a refusal to stay quiet.

Mixed by Grammy-winner Ariel Borujow and mastered by Ian Stewart, “On Purpose” fearlessly blends acoustic vulnerability with cinematic rock production. The accompanying music video, co-directed by Clara and Asher Thomas, plays out as a surreal Western showdown, where blurred roles of villain and victim mirror the song’s emotional tension.

Clara Kay (born Claire Hudson) is a singer-songwriter from Dallas, TX, now based in Boston. After years of fronting rock bands and secretly writing folk songs in her bedroom, she’s found her voice in the tension between the two. Her music lives in the space where raw feeling meets sharp storytelling. “On Purpose” is the first of many releases to come from her upcoming solo project.
