Clare Perrott Shines with Life and Joy on Carefree 'Biting On The Hand'

Clare Perrott returns with her bright and lively sophomore single, ‘Biting On The Hand’. Like a sun-drenched afternoon gathering, spilling over with laughter and hazy summer nostalgia, the Boorloo/Perth-based artist channels unabashed self-reflection through high-spirited Americana textures and a touch of angsty charm.

An alt-folk / indie anthem for the emotionally confused but self-aware, 'Biting On The Hand' brims with warmth and bursts with joy, capturing that fleeting, free-falling feeling of letting go.

Finger-picked banjo brings a country twang to the track, while fuzzy guitar licks slide in and out, adding colour and texture. Clare’s tone feels both playful and casually assured as she moves through the verses, then teeters on a cliff-edge in the bridge as she releases brief cries.

The chorus takes a leap as Perrott breaks out into long-held high notes coloured by her natural vibrato, while the band lifts around her with layers of glowing Americana instrumentation. The song ends in a rush of celebration, the band chanting out behind an electric guitar solo, bringing the track to a collective cheer.

'Biting On The Hand' is Clare’s playful reckoning with regret and self-sabotage, capturing the human habit of circling back to what hurts, even when it no longer serves any purpose. Speaking on the single, Clare Perrott explains:

“This year I really got into thinking about bad habits that I just can’t seem to shake, and with dirty banjo and distorted nylon guitar this song was born.”

That reflection forms the heart of ‘Biting On The Hand’, a track that transforms personal frustration into something liberating, communal and almost celebratory.

“The main message of the song is that we have to let go of things that don’t serve us anymore,” she adds. “I personally keep going back to past mistakes because somehow I cannot let go. We keep biting on the hand that doesn’t help us and going back for more when it only causes sadness and grief.”

Full of life, 'Biting On The Hand' follows Perrott's stunning debut single 'Philadelphia', released in May earlier this year. The track struck a chord immediately, earning support from Rolling Stone AU/NZ, CountrytownTriple J UnearthedABC CountryRTR FMApple Music and more.

‘Biting On The Hand’ is out now, carrying Clare Perrott’s vibrant blend of honesty and heart into the summer. She will mark the release with a headline show at Mojo’s Bar, Fremantle, on Friday, 28th November, before taking the stage at an unannounced festival appearance to close the year out.
