Naarm/Melbourne-based emo pop-punk four-piece Cordiform are set to release their highly anticipated first single of the year, ‘So What!’ - dropping June 5. The track delivers the band’s signature blend of heartfelt intensity and melodic grit, and was produced, mixed, and mastered by Ionei Heckenberg (Ocean Sleeper, Behind Crimson Eyes, Outloved), bringing a polished punch to the emotional anthem.
The song kicks off with a catchy, energetic intro that immediately pulls listeners in, before settling into a clean, melodic guitar line that sets the stage for a warm and welcoming verse. James Hibble’s ethereal vocals take center stage here, delivering a sense of vulnerability and calm. As the momentum builds, the track launches into a soaring, anthemic chorus that bursts with emotion and urgency. The energy ramps up again with a punchy, punk-inspired verse led by Liam Nolan’s dynamic and gritty vocals, injecting a fresh edge into the track. It all comes to a close with a hopeful, uplifting outro—capturing the emotional release that comes with moving forward and finding strength through change.
‘So What!’ captures the emotional rollercoaster of being knocked down by life, yet finding the inner strength to rise again. It's a raw and defiant anthem about resilience—the kind of tenacity that refuses to surrender, even when everything feels stacked against you. Through soaring melodies and anthemic energy, the track channels the chaos, frustration, and ultimate empowerment that comes with confronting hardship head-on and choosing to keep going.
Liam Nolan talks about creation process:
“[So What!] was one of the first songs we started working on after we released our debut EP - ‘Growth & Despair,’ in October 2023. The original idea was Tim Irwin’s (Drummer) really early in writing, always looking at it wondering how we would use it. It went through a lot of changes but the foundations were always linked back to the original
demo. It took working with Heckenberg to really pull a chorus together that felt big enough to give the energy to the song we thought it deserved.”
Accompanying the release is a whimsical music video, shot, directed, and edited by Jaydon Colvin (Ocean Sleeper, Outloved) and Ionei Heckenberg. The video sees the band put a playful twist on Fight Club, introducing their own version—Cordi Club. Highlighting their lighthearted nature, the clip underscores how even the most mundane moments become meaningful when shared with others.
“Working with [Jayden and Ionei] was so effortless. They really took our ideas and our lack of experience and really guided us through a massive day. They are so energetic and uptempo with their work and they really want you to walk away with the best product possible. It was something like 36c when we filmed that day and everyone was struggling under all the lights in the cramped spaces but they never showed it, even if we did. ” - Nolan
To celebrate the release of ‘So What!’, Cordiform will hit the road on an east coast tour, supporting Chasing Ghosts on their Therapy album launch alongside The Comfort. Known for their emotional, yet fun performances, the band has already made a name for themselves sharing stages with some of the scene’s most respected names, including Ocean Sleeper, Mirrors, Behind Crimson Eyes, Eat Your Heart Out, The Beautiful Monument, Bad Love, Future Static, Belle Haven, Stepson, Tapestry, Besties, Those Who Dream and Terra. With Australia’s deep-rooted love for metalcore, Cordiform saw an opportunity and used their passion for reinvigorating the local pop punk scene, launched their own music festival, Pizza Planet, sold 252 tickets in its debut. Building on that momentum, the band is set to headline the second installment this year, cheekily titled 2 Pizza 2 Planet.
The band's previous releases have been met with strong support across the Australian music landscape. The band has been featured on Spotify and triple j, gained attention from TikTok tastemakers like The Elder Emo, and received airplay from The Trove Show and Local and Legends on community radio. Online, they’ve caught the attention of platforms such as Wall of Sound, Havoc Underground (US), and PitPass, and sat down for interviews with What You Did On The Weekend, Born Yesterday Sweater Club, and Backstage Confidential.
