Dundee alt rock newcomers Red Vanilla are delighted to announce their return with new single ‘Oh No, I Got Older’ set for release on 1st October 2025 via all good digital service providers.
The track is the first new material from the band since the release of their critically-acclaimed 2024 debut EP Days of Grey, and comes with a video filmed on location in Thailand during the band's first live appearances in the country earlier this year.
A preview of a larger body of work coming next year from the quartet, the single was recorded with producer Kieran Smith in the spare room of lead guitarist George’s flat in Dundee, which the band have turned into their own small home studio.
“The recording process can be stressful,” they say of the process. “When you care so much, you put yourself under such pressure to make everything perfect, so using our own space was a really big deal for us. We just felt at home, which totally elevated our confidence, and in turn, our performance on the new songs.”
Commenting on the themes of the single, vocalist Anna Forsyth says: “This one does what it says on the tin. My biggest fear in life is the passing of time—the older I get, the quicker it goes. I love my life, even in the hardest of times, and I truly appreciate every single second that I get to be here. Sometimes I’ll be sitting with my friends, maybe at the beach, a few beers in, watching the sunset, and I think about how beautiful it is just to exist, then my brain will go ‘yeah, but one day you won’t.’ I wish I didn’t obsess over it, but it’s hard to shake, so of course I had to write a song about it.”
“I’ve sworn to myself that I won’t leave this life without making something of this band, and this song is just a big word vomit all about the stress of that, when you know it’s not a given. I believe we’ll get there, but also know there’s plenty more fretting ahead of us until we do.”
On their last release, Red Vanilla made an impressive early name for themselves leveraging their tenacity and ambition to launch into an identity bloom that took them beyond the borders of Scotland for the first time.
The band released their debut single ‘Embers’ in 2022 and their debut EP Days of Grey in 2024. A tightly wound and well-packaged collection of searing alt-rock songwriting, it marked them out as a bold new Scottish voice to keep tabs on, with the band earning a rush of early tastemaker support from CLASH Magazine, VISIONS Magazine, Discovery Music Scotland, The Punk Site, Maximum Volume, The List, The Skinny Magazine, The Courier and more.
Through their impassioned choruses, and notably on the explosive finale of lead single ‘All These Better Things’, the band strove relentlessly to bury the belittling opinions of any doubters, and flourished in the liberty that their newfound inner strength brought them.
Their dense, guitar-driven sound is elegantly wrapped in ‘90s inspired pop-hook vocals, and they’ve been slowly and steadily cutting their teeth on the road over the past few years, gathering pace as they hone their polished radio-ready rock sound.
They appeared at Outwith Festival 2022 alongside Fatherson and Pulled Apart By Horses, and have also played shows with fast-rising contemporaries in Reminders, Beach Riot, and Redwood, opening for Dea Matrona and Kyle Falconer (The View) across two nights at Camden Underworld, London.
