Electro-goth Producer Michael Georgian Unveils Melancholy Banger ‘Where the Love Begins’
Michael Georgian is a South East London native, who by his own admission, “spent the past year locked in the studio”. Leaving confinement to play alongside Nation of Language, Sextile, George Clanton, Sorry and Nathan Fake, Georgian’s magpie approach to sound is reflected in the varied line-ups he frequents. The product of his toil is Georgian’s self-produced debut EP Machine Music, which will be released by South Coast tastemakers Strong Island Recordings (Rosie Alena, Ugly) on the 30th of May.
Following the EP’s acid-flavoured first taste ‘Fantasy’ last month, ‘Where The Love Begins’ is a track “about trying to see the little victories in life, an attempt at detaching from irony and looking at the relationships and moments that make life worth living.” Combining haunting dead-pan vocals with snappy drum machine beats and 80s synth sounds, it’s one for crying in the (sex) club, channeling danceable goth greats from Fad Gadget to Boy Harsher and beyond.
Having built a solid foundation, Georgian has enjoyed support from 6 Music’s Tom Ravenscroft - which led to a debut sold-out headline show at London’s Paper Dress Vintage and an unlikely new fan in Mac DeMarco; whilst early outing ‘Televised’ has become a favourite at underground warehouse parties worldwide, with spins from CC DISCO, System Olympia and Tia Cousins, reaching as far as São Paulo, Tokyo, and Lima.
To celebrate the release of Machine Music, Michael Georgian will perform live at The Greyhound in Peckham and will appear in Brighton at the buzzy Alt Escape (full details below).
