Newcastle-based musician ERNIE announces ‘Sunsoaked’ EP (pre-order here), set for release September 12th via Sound Recordings, and shares new single ‘Inertia’, out today (July 30th)
Taking influence from a blend of the folksy, old-timey music of small-town America and the lo-fi indie rock and electronica music of present day, ERNIE’s music is driven by brooding, heartfelt vocals and finger-picked acoustic guitar, with widespread support having flooded in since the release of debut EP ‘Cold Cuts’ via Gravity Records (Divorce, Fiona-Lee).
Receiving substantial praise across the broadsheets (The Sunday Times, The Independent) and key indie champions (NME, The Line of Best Fit, Dork, DIY, Rough Trade, La Blogotheque, Clash), as well as countless spins on BBC Radio 1 (Jess Izatt), BBC Radio 2 (Jo Whiley), BBC 6 Music (Huw Stephens, Radcliffe & Maconie, Chris Hawkins), Radio X (John Kennedy) and Apple Music (Matt Wilkinson) airwaves, ERNIE’s rise has continued to gather pace since the release of EP lead single ‘Summer Sun’ earlier this summer.
Having supported Sam Fender at his St James’ Park, Newcastle stadium shows in June, in addition to previous slots alongside acts including Wunderhorse, English Teacher and Goat Girl, ERNIE is primed to announce a full live plot this autumn to coincide with his second EP release.
On the EP, ERNIE revealed: "‘Sunsoaked’ is broadly about growth; overcoming the hurdles of adult life, addiction and unfortunate circumstances and coming out the other end in a better place. The EP is emotionally heavy but also hopeful and upbeat and melodic."
Detailing ‘Inertia’ specifically, the musician explained: "‘Inertia’ is a song about being stuck in a rut and feeling almost like a spectator in your own life, and then watching that feeling disappear when you’re in the company of a loved one."
Produced by Josh Ingledew and mastered by John Webber (David Bowie, English Teacher), ERNIE’s ‘Inertia’ is out now via Sound Recordings and available on all digital platforms.
