Headline show in Sheffield this May

Shimmering, cinematic and tinged with a Lynchian uncanny, rising Sheffield band Faint Paint's shapeshifting songs offer a rich sonic experience. Inspired by classic artists and songwriters such as Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers, The Velvet Underground and Roy Orbison, Faint Paint deliver their music with a brooding lyrical potency that serenades and unsettles in equal measure.

On their latest track, "Nothing's True", the four-piece delve deep into the themes of longing, fractured realities and the fragility of truth. The lyrics dance between the familiar and the uncanny, evoking a simplicity that lulls the listener into a false sense of ease, only to slowly reveal the darker, more elusive nature of the song.

Faint Paint say of the single: "What began as a few scattered lines - 'write like no one’s reading' and 'proses are read, silence is blue' - Nothing's True grew into a deeper reflection on fractured realities, the slipperiness of meaning, and how easy it is to mistake certainty for truth. The verses fold and bleed into one another, like thoughts that can’t quite hold their shape."

"Nothing's True" will be released digitally and on a limited run of pre-order only, white lathe cut vinyl. Pre-order here.

Live Dates

30th May - Shakespeare's, Sheffield (Headline)

Faint Paint are a Sheffield four-piece making melodic, emotionally rich guitar music with a cinematic streak. Their songs drift between the classic and the strange — blending dreamy textures, tight vocal harmonies and a sharp ear for melody.

Formed by long-time friends, Faint Paint began as a loose creative project between singer Cal Innes and guitarist Mark Riddington, rooted in late-night ideas and shared records. Joined by Anthony Barlow (formerly of Sheffield indie outfit High Hazels), they started shaping those songs into something new: softer around the edges, but emotionally direct.

The sound took clearer shape with the addition of Zac Barfoot (Mr Ben & The Bens, Sun Drift) on bass, and the band began writing as a close-knit unit. Influences range from Roy Orbison’s haunted balladry to the twang of Duane Eddy, the tender oddness of Jonathan Richman and the dreamlike tension of David Lynch films. It’s melancholic music that doesn’t wallow — it moves with an understated gallows humour.

Since releasing their first tracks in late 2023 — "Towards Your Door", "To The End", "Love Etc." and "Everyone I Meet" — Faint Paint have picked up support from BBC Introducing, with multiple plays across BBC Radio Sheffield and Leeds. Their debut headline show at Sheffield’s Delicious Clam sold out, followed by a packed-out slot on the BBC Introducing stage at Float Along Festival. Their set was recorded and broadcast by the BBC, along with a feature interview.

Faint Paint write songs that stay with you — patient, thoughtful, and quietly bold.

Praise for Faint Paint:
"Sheffield's own Faint Paint take to Pilbeam's BBC Introducing stage with a shimmering, cinematic and somewhat brooding eight-song set, which includes standout tracks ‘Towards Your Door’ and ‘To The End’, all aided and abetted by Cal Innes’s lyrically whip-smart vocals and Mark Riddington's liquid guitar work."
- Now Then Magazine - Live Review ‘Float Along Festival’

"Properly kicking things off on the BBC Introducing Stage was Sheffield band Faint Paint, and it was absolutely heaving. I couldn’t even get in, we had to sneak round the back to get in and watch Faint Paint and it was lovely. Very gentle, very soothing actually...Delightful, smooth, crooner sounds" -
BBC Introducing Introducing Sheffield & Leeds - Emily Pilbeam

"The songs shift from dream pop sensibilities to slightly jarring sonic experiences, and touch everywhere in between. A new offering to most, they are definitely one whose name you will hear again and again." -
