Glasgow-based quartet Sixth Wonder are set to release their debut EP, ‘Prologue’, this summer, along with brutal new single ‘Death Departed’, available digitally now.
“‘Prologue’ from start to finish, brings you on the journey we have found ourselves on in the past couple of years as a solid unit of four,” the band noted. “Each song continues the story we are telling, discovering the darkness, and building into the light. We wanted to make this concept EP to speak about our experiences in the industry, and close a chapter in our path. Prologue is just the beginning of Sixth Wonder, and we have so much more to give.”
The EP is a visceral journey through betrayal, self-doubt, and liberation, built around 4 main themes: realisation, contemplation, antagonism, and escapism, each attributed to a certain track. Opener, and first single, ‘Thorn’ touches on the realisation of fighting a losing battle, and the consequential emotions of betrayal, with the binary nature of its successor, ‘Ropeburn’, serving as musical whiplash through its exploration of the psychological torment of ambivalence - a compelling concoction of chaos, catharsis, and contemplation. ‘Guts’ delivers the personification of antagonism, and a middle finger to ego and false superiority through potent lyricism and pernicious riffs against a caustic undercurrent of glitchy electronic textures. The brief but unsettling interlude ‘Feed The Hand’ creates beautiful unease, bridging the anger of what came before with the vulnerability ahead with EP closer ‘Death Departed’.
The EP’s thrilling tale of the less flattering side to the human condition lands Sixth Wonder at ‘Death Departed’ - their anti-love story and a venomous goodbye to everything they once knew. “‘Death Departed' tells the story of escaping detriment at the hand of another, and speaks on the freedom of leaving a bad situation and feeling the warmth on the other side.” The track is the end of the beginning for the quartet, and a gritty telling of the survival of the gloom that has come to pass. Shimmering melodies intertwine with soaring vocals from powerhouse frontwoman Rebekah Kirk, tight mathy riffs and thunderous basslines, as the assumed catharsis becomes sonically perceived. “Death Departed is our goodbye to everything we’ve outgrown,” the band added, as the page turns on this chapter.
Emerging as one of the most exciting forces in modern metal, Sixth Wonder are a Scottish alt-metal band forging a bold new sound where “djent pop” meets cinematic fantasy. With soaring melodies, searing riffs, and immersive storytelling, they craft sonic landscapes that blurs genre lines. The four-piece have already earned airplay on BBC Radio 1, claimed Best Metal at the 2023 Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMAs), and shared the stage with the likes of Dream State, Fearless Vampire Killers, and Future Static. Having released a slurry of singles since their formation in 2021, Sixth Wonder look to make 2025 their year, having already supported newshapes at the infamous King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, and shows at The Black Heart in London, Chelmsford’s Hot Box and Newcastle’s Little Buildings to come this summer.
Sixth Wonder will release debut EP ‘Prologue’ on July 2nd, alongside a gut wrenching new single ‘Death Departed’ on the same day.
