FLOCO announces debut EP (Field Work Recordings)
Intimacy, through the veil. I'll Be My Own Mirror, the debut EP from London-based composer/violinist FLOCO is a tactile incantation of transitional waking dreams. An enchanting mix of ambient electronic soundscapes, with with folk music sat at it's very heart. The EP will be released physically on a run of 80 cassettes, as well as 20 Rough Trade exclusives that come with a 6 page concertina zine.
Today she share's the first single, and title track, partnered with hallucinatory video, shot by Jude Jansen.
After collaboration and miles on the road with peers Martha Skye Murphy, London Ambient Orchestra & more, she has settled to conflate all her influences and experiences into this captivating body of work. Building from what she already has. "I built the EP across different periods of change in my life, a mantra - trying to see myself through the chaos. It's a dialogue with self that simultaneously celebrates my self-sufficiency and challenges it. There’s a dark side to 'I’ll be my own mirror’, rooted in isolation."
Tender and spacious, it glistens with introspection; a spectrum of both processed and found sounds sew a patchwork of FLOCO’s dream-state panorama. Sonic grain is wrought and layered over a bed of intimacy and enchantment. A veil covering an entrance to an otherwise untouched landscape. Layered, abstracted vocals are treated as instruments, building to something greater than the sum of what she has.
Born from a collection of improvisation and electronic experimentation, I’ll be my own mirror arrives as a personal milestone of FLOCO’s intuition. Writing, producing and mixing the EP herself, she taps into the very source of a creative duality.
