From New York to Hamburg: Fastest rising newcomers Will Sass (Billboard Dance #1) and Malou (Diplo, Ben Böhmer) Collaborate on “What If It Takes You Away”

WILLL SASS RETURNS WITH NEW SINGLE WHAT IF IT TAKES YOU AWAY FEATURING MALOU

AFTER TOPPING BILLBOARD DANCE AND GENERATING OVER 4.5 MILLION STREAMS IN HIS FIRST 6 MONTHS

A TRANSATLANTIC COLLABORATION BETWEEN TWO OF THE MOST EXCITING RISING NAMES IN DANCE

What happens when two rising forces in global dance music each building their own momentum, sound and story find themselves aligned on a single vision? New York-based producer Will Sass and Hamburg-born vocalist Malou are releasing What If It Takes You Away on 1st August. A new track that captures the weight and musical clarity of two artists at turning points in their careers.

After debuting in 2024 which followed with a Billboard Dance Radio #1 (Into The Blue 3Xweeks), 4.5M+ streams and support from the likes of Spotify, Apple Music, BBC Radio 1, Capital, Claptone, Joris Voorn and more, Will Sass has quickly cemented himself as one of the most compelling new names in electronic music. His warm, analog-inspired sound draws on influences from Kaytranada to Kevin Parker and Mark Ronson.

Meanwhile, Malou has emerged as one of the most sought after voices in electro-pop and dance. With nearly 8 million monthly Spotify listeners, collaborations with Diplo, Ben Böhmer, Hugel and a release this year with ALOK, she’s building a global fanbase with her ethereal tone and emotional dexterity.

A fan-favourite from his unreleased arsenal, What If It Takes You Away began over a year ago during one of Will’s first-ever writing trips to the UK in a session with Nina Nesbitt and Lewis Thompson. Initially written as a ballad, the track lingered as Will’s sound evolved, shaped by his growing love of dance music and his emergence as a DJ in New York. Over time, it became a marker of his evolution, reenergised to reflect where he was heading as an artist.

When the production finally clicked, Will reached out to Malou online. She responded instantly and within 24 hours he was on a flight to Germany to finish the track in person.

With lush textures and a vocal that shifts between restraint and release, What If It Takes You Away is a moment for both artists hailing as two distinct voices converging with creative clarity. It balances melancholy with hope in a blend of heartwarming songwriting and glowing dance production.

For Will Sass, 2025 has already been a year of breakout moments. His latest single Happiness (with Kamille) is now Top 40 at US Dance Radio and his current performances include Surf Lodge (supporting Camelphat) and a slot at Breakaway Festival later in the month as he gears up for a debut New York residency launching in August.

As both Will and Malou continue to ascend What If It Takes You Away is a release that reflects where they are and where they’re clearly headed.
