It was ten years ago in George FitzGerald’s Berlin studio that “Full Circle (feat. Boxed In)”, the eminent after-hours track that has remained a staple in FitzGerald’s live sets since, first began to take shape. A cherished, old newspaper clipping of footballer Eric Cantona with the headline 'Cantona Comes Full Circle', which adorned the wall, provided the unexpected flash of inspiration for a song about the unfulfilled promise of stagnant relationships, beautifully narrated by the soft vocals of Oli Bayston aka Boxed In. Featured on his debut album and Double Six release Fading Love, it was labelled by Mixmag as “deep, brooding and brilliant” and hailed for its “echoes of Underworld on this after-hours house groover” by The Times.
To celebrate 10 years of the fan favourite, today FitzGerald announces a digital repackage which includes a sharp and fresh club mix of the track by FitzGerald himself entitled “From The Vaults 10 Year Mix” as well as the original track and remix by Bonobo. Full Circle (10 Year Anniversary) will also be released as a limited edition 12” on 1st August and is available to pre-order now.
“”Full Circle” means a lot to me as it marked a change in the direction of my music,” says George. “Prior to its release I had been more focused on being a club DJ and producer. I remember desperately wanting to make something for quieter moments. Over the years people have come up to me after gigs or sent me messages about what it's meant to them and where they listen, but at the time I really didn't know if anyone would like it. I wrote most of this faster take just before the release but decided not to use it as I wanted the original to exist fully outside of a club context. 10 years later, after salvaging the project from an old hard drive, it feels right to release this version too.”
