ABOUT NOX PULSO
NOX PULSO (latin for “night beats”) formed in the ashes of the coronavirus pandemic by two DJ’s from very different worlds - Matt McIvor, a DJ with a history of dub and d’n’b, most recently seen racking up 7 figure YouTube views for his synthwave mixes as ItIAM for the New Retro Wave label, extended an olive branch to his metal-head nemesis, TotalRock Radio’s long-time Industrial Show host, and former nu-metal guitarist, Duncan Williams.

Sometimes described as new wave of industrial metal, Williams joked about the unlikely collaboration “We just call it heavy dance music. Imagine the 90’s called and said they wanted their music back? Unfortunately for everyone involved, we answered! Actually, you couldn’t have made NOX PULSO in that time. When I went to see The Prodigy back then it just descended into a bunch of fist fights between metalheads and ravers.. And what we are doing is really a more extreme take on that.”

McIvor chimes in “It’s almost impossible working with him [Williams], because he will never back down about a single note or drum sound. So I end up having to manage the sound of a warzone between the two of us.That said, PLAGUE TOWN is less of a fight, and more of a musical exorcism, which sets the tone for the rest of the album.”

Lisa Harris of Null Void Records commented further “We have known both guys for a long time - our last release was by Matt’s Kill Shelter project, and we had previously put out an album by Duncan’s old band Zero Cipher in 2009, so when I heard they were actually working together, I couldn’t really believe it. The chances of seeing them in the same room - much less making music - was something I had to see to believe. At Null Void we realized that NOX PULSO have the kind of audience who value both physical media and full albums as a format, so the first thing we did was put that process in place and release physical copies of their debut (which are now sold out!). We’ll be prioritizing CD and vinyl over streaming for TWO as well.”

NOX PULSO’s 2023 debut Songs from the Wastelands saw them perform across the UK with acts ranging from Harpy to Raging Speedhorn and Aesthetic Perfection, at festivals like Depravation, Resistanz, and Hard Rock Hell. They headline the inaugural Oblivion Festival (Glasgow, Sept 25) in support of the album.
