Introducing…. May The Muse

Few artists can claim to move as fluidly between genres as May The Muse. From soulful beginnings to cinematic soundscapes and gothic pop, her journey has been one of exploration and fearless evolution. We caught up with her to talk about where it all began, the art of experimentation, and what’s next with her new band, JESUS BABY.

Click Roll Boom: How did you first get started in music?
May The Muse: I dated a musician—he showed me his studio and a whole new world opened up for me.

CRB: How would you describe your sound, and how has it evolved since you first started?
MTM: I started out with soul and R&B, then came electronic music, then soundtracks for movies. I’ve worked with hip hop artists and I’ve just released a Pop, Rock, Goth album. I think the common thread here is that my vocals are the center of attention.

CRB: Who or what have been some of your biggest influences, musically and beyond?
MTM: Zero7, Morcheeba, Sade, Eagles.

CRB: What does your songwriting process typically look like – is it a more individual or collaborative effort?
MTM: I do both. I mostly write alone but I started a band over the summer and working with these guys is the best experience I’ve ever had.

CRB: How do you approach experimenting with new sounds or ideas when creating music?
MTM: I just try stuff out. It’s not like I have a concept in mind. I sit down and let whatever needs to come out, come out.

CRB: What’s been one of the most memorable moments in your journey so far?
MTM: Playing Montreux Jazz Festival.

CRB: How do you prepare for live shows, and what do you aim to bring to your performances?
MTM: I want to be raw. I want the audience to feel me.

CRB: How do you balance creative expression with staying connected to your audience?
MTM: I’m not too good at that but I’ve just created a Twitch account and I’ll be streaming my studio sessions on there.

CRB: What do you hope listeners take away from your work?
MTM: I hope they feel something.

CRB: What does the future hold for you – any plans or goals you’re excited about?
MTM: Yes! My new band JESUS BABY. I can’t wait to get on the road with those guys!

Amy

I'm Amy a Norfolk girl, currently residing at the seaside.

Age: eternally 21 (I’m really Peter Pan!).

By day I'm a Leaks, Condensation, Damp and Mould Resident Liaison Officer and by night I'm CRB's admin bitch, reviewer extraordinaire, point and hope for the best photographer, paperclip monitor and expert at breaking anything technical then expecting Scott to fix it!

I'm into all kinds of music the more obscure the better (my music taste is definitely better than yours 🤪😜) with my fave band being The Wonder Years.

I'm an Ipswich Town fan and have an unhealthy obsession with hedgehogs!
