Introducing…. The Lazys
The Lazys are an Australian rock band whose sound draws from pub and club roots of the 80s while incorporating punk and North American influences. With close to 18 years of playing together, the band blends raw energy, crowd interaction, and melodic hooks to create high-impact performances both live and on record.
Click Roll Boom: Tell me about how the band started – how did you all come together?
Leon Harrison: I met Matty around the age of 21. We both wanted to become rock n rollers, so we began to write songs, play live and never give up. So far we have been a band close to 18 years.
CRB: How would you describe your sound, and how has it evolved since you first started?
LH: Our sound resonates Australian rock. It originates from the pub and club scene of the 80’s and takes influence from bands such as The Angels, Rose Tattoo and of course AC/DC. Our sound has definitely matured through the years and thanks to our producer Ian D'sa from Canadian Billy Talent, working with him has given our sound a North American edge drawing on our punk rock roots.
CRB: Who or what have been some of your biggest influences, musically and beyond?
LH: AC/DC, The Beatles, The Angels, and Rage.
CRB: What does your songwriting process typically look like – is it a more individual or collaborative effort?
LH: It starts with a lyrical context that’s complemented with what feels right on the guitar. This may be something we’ve got in the archives or something completely off the cuff. We structure the music, then we elaborate on the lyrical context and write the words to suit.
CRB: How do you approach experimenting with new sounds or ideas when creating music?
LH: We usually go with what feels right. Always trust your gut before anything else.
CRB: What’s been one of the most memorable moments in your journey as a band so far?
LH: Playing Wacken Open Air.
CRB: How do you prepare for live shows, and what do you aim to bring to your performances?
LH: We all take our own time before we come together. Few drinks to loosen up and away we go.
CRB: How do you balance creative expression with staying connected to your audience?
LH: Our show relies on crowd interaction. We generally hype them up to the point of no return.
CRB: What do you hope listeners take away from your work?
LH: Joy and something they can relate to.
CRB: What does the future hold for you – any plans or goals you’re excited about?
LH: New album and lots more touring. Thank you!
