Introducing…. Venice Revive
Venice Revive is a solo metal project that blends old-school influences with a drive toward modern sounds. With a debut album already under their belt and a second in the works, the project has been steadily carving its place in the scene through determination, resilience, and pure love of heavy music.
Click Roll Boom: Tell me about how you got started
Venice Revive: I started playing guitar at the age of 16 only to play the songs I love, only to find out I can write pretty cool riffs, which evolved to songs! Long story short, I have a debut album out.
CRB: How would you describe your sound, and how has it evolved since you first started?
VR: The sound of my first album was based on the bands I grew up listening to, which mostly consists of old school metalcore. I actually found out about the old school & new school sound variants after releasing my first album, so really trying to learn everything about modern sound to make my next album get there.
CRB: Who or what have been some of your biggest influences, musically and beyond?
VR: For my first album, it was bands like Trivium, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying… For the next one, I'm trying to learn from bands like Catch Your Breath, Our Promise, Deadlands, Enemy Inside, etc.
CRB: What does your songwriting process typically look like – is it a more individual or collaborative effort?
VR: Venice Revive is a solo project, it's just me in front of my computer with my guitar. I do receive help from friends who shaped the sound and added great ideas, but Venice Revive has always been just me alone.
CRB: How do you approach experimenting with new sounds or ideas when creating music?
VR: I'm actually having a really hard time with "experimenting", I'm autistic so all I know are formulas & structures. That's why I'm trying to learn as much as possible from modern bands while trying to create my own sound.
CRB: What’s been one of the most memorable moments in your journey so far?
VR: I reached the top of the national rock chart with only my second single.
CRB: How do you prepare for live shows, and what do you aim to bring to your performances?
VR: I didn't perform yet, trying to find members still, will tell you when I'll know too!
CRB: How do you balance creative expression with staying connected to your audience?
VR: That's actually been the hardest part about creating music, especially when working with other people, ESPECIALLY within a local metal scene. Most of the people here only care about playing songs they enjoy, even if it means playing only in front of 30 people, at some point I just gave up and just stopped waiting for people, started creating music alone. It takes a lot of mental strength. Not only trying to learn what the hell do people like, but having the maturity and courage to delete and rewrite parts that you really liked. It's tough as hell, but I believe my debut album is amazing, and that's all that matters in the end.
CRB: What do you hope listeners take away from your work?
VR: When I listen to music, I love closely listening and try to understand not only the lyrics, hence the meaning of the songs, but also the emotions the instrumentalists were trying to convey with the notes they chose. I also write deep music, I really hope I'll help my listeners deal with whatever they're dealing with right now.
CRB: What does the future hold for you – any plans or goals you’re excited about?
VR: I'm a solo artist, I just keep writing music and promote it as much as possible, hopefully someone important will hear it somewhere and sign me, or maybe they'll just explode with Spotify's algorithm or something, who knows. I'll just keep creating my music meanwhile.
