Introducing…. Wolver

Swedish rock outfit Wolver have been steadily carving out their sound since forming after college — a blend of huge riffs, theatrical energy, and emotional depth. Their music bridges the gap between dramatic rock and catchy accessibility, balancing grand ambition with raw sincerity. With a new EP on the horizon and an even bigger live presence in the works, the band’s journey feels like it’s only just getting started.

Click Roll Boom: Tell me about how the band started – how did you all come together?
Wolver: Our band’s journey started after me, Marcus (vocalist and guitarist), and Elias (drummer) wrapped up college. We began experimenting with different guitarists, but it wasn’t until we met Filip (our former guitarist) that everything really started to click. That was when we began working on our first album, Act I: It Starts With a Bow.

Unfortunately, right when the album dropped, COVID hit. Filip also made the personal decision to step away from the band to focus on becoming a father. After the pandemic, Elias and I tried continuing as a duo, which worked better than we expected, but it wasn’t until we found Erik (our current guitarist) that the full chemistry we were looking for really came together. And here we are today!

CRB: How would you describe your sound, and how has it evolved since you first started?
W: Our sound has always been about creating a big, dynamic mix — catchy riffs that get people moving, paired with softer ballads full of harmonies. We've always focused on maintaining a memorable dynamic between tracks. As we've evolved, especially with our latest material, we’ve been working to keep that unique sound while also making it more accessible to first-time listeners. It’s about striking a balance between staying true to our roots and opening up to a broader audience.

CRB: Who or what have been some of your biggest influences, musically and beyond?
W: Musically, my biggest influences have definitely been bands like Muse, Panic! At The Disco, Queen, and maybe even The Hives. Their approach to songwriting and performance has had a huge impact on me. For our latest songs, though, I’ve been listening to a mix of Twenty One Pilots, Jon Bellion, and — believe it or not — bbno$! Each of these artists brings something different to the table, and it's helped shape the direction of our new material.

CRB: What does your songwriting process typically look like – is it a more individual or collaborative effort?
W: Usually, I (Marcus) start the songwriting process on either an acoustic guitar or piano, where I focus on getting the lyrics, melody, and structure in place. Once I have a foundation, I bring it to the band, and we work through it together during rehearsals. Everyone adds their own flavor to the song, helping to refine it and make it shine. For our latest songs, we've also done a lot of writing directly in the studio, using the space almost like another instrument to experiment and bring new ideas to life. It’s a long and sometimes tedious process, but honestly, I love every minute of it.

CRB: How do you approach experimenting with new sounds or ideas when creating music?
W: When it comes to experimenting with new sounds, the studio is where we really dive in. For our latest songs, we’ve gone all-in on every detail, making sure every second of every track counts. We’re not afraid to take risks and push boundaries, but we’re also mindful of striking a balance between what excites us creatively and what we think our audience will connect with. It’s about finding that sweet spot between fun and accessibility.

CRB: What’s been one of the most memorable moments in your journey as a band so far?
W: Touring has definitely been one of the most memorable experiences for us as a band — it’s been amazing to connect with fans in person. But honestly, there’s nothing quite like that rush of finding the perfect sound or the perfect line of lyrics in a song. Those moments are always such a high point in the creative process.

CRB: How do you prepare for live shows, and what do you aim to bring to your performances?
W: Preparation for live shows is all about hours of rehearsing — perfecting harmonies and fine-tuning everything. We also spend time thinking about how to keep the energy up and creatively fill the spaces between songs. We call our music Theatrical Rock, and that goes beyond just the sound; it’s about the whole experience, including our visuals and performance. We love to play with dynamics in our setlist, shifting from hard rock to acoustic ballads, then to ukulele songs, and back to rock. It’s about keeping the audience engaged and making each show feel unique.

CRB: How do you balance creative expression with staying connected to your audience?
W: That’s definitely one of the trickier aspects, but it’s also the most rewarding. In many ways, having a framework to work within can actually help guide the creative process. As someone who loves a wide range of genres, I always try to stay tuned into new and exciting ideas in music. That way, we can keep our sound fresh while still staying connected to what our audience loves.

CRB: What do you hope listeners take away from your work?
W: I hope people connect with the songs enough to really dive into the lyrics and interpret them on their own. Like all great art, we want our music to make people feel something. Whether it’s getting hyped for a night out, realizing they’re not alone in moments of self-doubt, or — with our more political songs — encouraging them to think critically and for themselves, we just want to spark emotion and thought.

CRB: What does the future hold for you – any plans or goals you’re excited about?
W: Right now, we feel that the music we’re releasing is a step up from what we’ve done before, and we’re hoping it’ll take us to the next level in our career. Once the EP drops, we’re beyond excited to hit the road again and perform live — it’s been too long. We promise anyone who comes out to see us a truly great show!
