Irish Artist Miranda Faul Releases Her Latest Single “Holding Me Back”
Miranda Faul is releasing her latest single, “Holding Me Back”, on Friday 25th April 2025. Miranda is releasing “Holding Me Back” hot on the footsteps of her debut EP, “Rise & Run”, which she released in January 2025 to much critical acclaim.
Speaking on Holding Me Back, Miranda says “‘Holding Me Back’ is a song about overwhelming, suffocating love. It's about meaning too much to someone, to the point that you can’t give them what they expect of you. They’re also blurring your mind, so you can’t see the situation clearly. You know that they’re hurting you, but you can’t break free; you can’t unwind yourself from them.
Most of its lyrics came from a poem I wrote a few years ago about family. I used it to write ‘Holding Me Back’ about love last year. I was playing around with chords and wrote a sad little waltz, and the song came from there. It was produced by Willem van Dijk, a friend and producer from The Hague. It’s our first release together. We started stripped and folky, and built to an upbeat, alt pop vibe. Listening to it now, it feels fun but sad - the lyrics came from the heart and it hurts me a little to hear them, but in a cathartic way. I like to do that with my songs; to make them bright and sparkly, but try to catch listeners off guard with darker lyrics they can connect to.”

Holding Me Back Details:
Composer (Lyrics & Music): Miranda Faul
Production: Willem van Dijk
Mix/Master: Cian Sweeney
Lyrics:
Verse 1:
There’s too much of you in me
I can’t breathe, I can’t see through
The webs that you’ve spun round me
I can’t feel nothing but you
You echo out in my silence, defining my mood
You edge off all that I’ve rounded, you darken the room
Chorus 1:
And I’ve tried to unwind you from the parts of me that
Could hope to escape you but you’re holding me back
So I’ll be back
Verse 2:
It’s too much for me being all that you touch and consume
I told you make some room, can’t you see that I can’t move?
I wanna stay here and lay here of course I do
But you hear through deaf ears, I’m drowning and so are you
Chorus 2:
And I’ve tried to remind you of the parts of me that
Once hoped to amount to something more than what we have
Outro:
I’ll try to unwind you from the parts of me that
I’ll try to unwind you from the parts of me that
I’ll try to unwind you from the parts of me that
Could hope to escape you but you’re holding me back
