(24th October) Hertfordshire alt-pop singer-songwriter Jack Kane today releases new EP 'Obvious' via MADE Music, led by its title track and focus single.
'Obvious' closes the five-song collection with a gut-punch of clarity. “It’s a song about hindsight hitting you in the face. The realisation that all the warning signs were right there, the bad habits, the missed birthdays, the cold silences, that you just didn’t want to see at the time,” Kane explains. “It’s a break up song, but really it’s about the regret you feel from ignoring your gut feelings. The song closes out the story that unfolds across the EP, five stages of a messy relationship and subsequent breakup that ultimately leaves you understanding that you should trust yourself and your instincts more.”
That sense of narrative defines the whole 'Obvious' EP. Playing less like a loose collection of tracks and more like a short film, charting the collapse of a relationship through its awkward details, small humiliations, and sudden flashes of truth. Kane thrives in those contrasts; bus window stares and neon-lit choruses, the intimate and the expansive stitched together into alt-pop songs that feel both close-up and cinematic.
Across its five tracks, the 'Obvious' EP traces that arc with vivid detail. Opener 'Wisdom Tooth' captures the restless intensity of infatuation, threading jangling guitars through crisp percussion and a swelling chorus, with Kane calling it “a playful take on desire - impossible to ignore, it doesn’t feel like it should be there, but you can’t stop prodding at it." Next, 'Loving You (Is A Drag)' - written and produced with BLUEGIRL (Millie Turner, Déyyess) - reframes cheating not as simple betrayal but as a symptom of love turned stale, channelling the narrative detail of Paul Simon’s verse writing. 'Breaking Up At The Department Store' sets emotional chaos against sterile normality, infused with a warm, vintage style, before 'Civil Unrest' reflects on the turbulence of disentangling lives after a breakup.
Reframing overheard confessions and snapshots of ordinary life into bold, expansive pop - Kane sits within a new wave of UK songwriters blending classic pop detail with modern alt-pop polish. His songs sway between the intimate and the arena-ready, carrying pop hooks with a vintage streak while nodding to the swagger of 70s and 80s pop and the confessional honesty of today’s alt voices.
The EP was pieced together with a cast of close collaborators including Mark Elliot, BLUEGIRL, Toni Howard, Odd Martin, Hoost, and Ed Denholm. Some of the songs were born in spontaneous ‘flow’ sessions - full improvisations later sculpted into fully-fledged tracks - giving them a looseness and immediacy that contrasts with Kane’s meticulous lyrical detail.

Raised in Hertfordshire on a diet of Beatles records from his Liverpudlian dad and Chaka Khan anthems from his North London-born mum, Kane grew up in a house where music was always playing - literally the soundtrack to family life. That backdrop helped shape a songwriter who thrives on contrasts; soft details and widescreen moments seamlessly stitched together.
With a burgeoning fanbase, Jack Kane recently wrapped his debut UK & Ireland tour, playing to packed rooms in Glasgow, Dublin, London, Manchester and Bristol, with fans singing back lyrics to unreleased songs – proof of a songwriter building something with true staying power.
Elsewhere, Jack Kane has previously performed at Neighbourhood Festival, Barn On The Farm, BST Hyde Park and most recently was invited to support AURORA in Dublin, following previous dates supporting Arthur Hill, Eloise, Will Joseph Cook and more.
With his blend of pop smarts and live-wire performance energy, Jack Kane is carving out a space built to last with 'Obvious': “I’m tired of seeing everything boiled down to instant gratification,” he says. “I only want to release songs that will mean something to me in 10 years from now.”
