Legendary alt-rock/indie-pop songwriter Jamie Lenman today makes a rare break from his musical hiatus to announce a very special double live album, One Night Stand, set for release on 28th May 2025 exclusively via Bandcamp as a pay what you want release.

The new release consists of two sumptuous full recordings of the Early Show and Late Show from his One Night Stand piano concerts, which took place in November 2023.

A full movie of the entire concert is available exclusively to Lenman’s Patreon supporters, who he feels strongly about rewarding with special content on a regular basis.

“The only thing I really miss about the music industry is the contact with my supporters,” he explains, “which I would normally only get on tour. That’s why the Patreon has been so great – we have quarterly zoom shows and there’s lots of interaction, so that’s why I decided to save the concert footage exclusively for them. Even if somebody joins up just to watch that - it’s only a quid, so why not?”

To celebrate the news, Lenman has also revealed an atmospheric video from the concert hall for previously-unreleased new single ‘Summer Is Over’, which is out now via Big Scary Monsters.

Commenting on the track, he says: “‘Summer Is Over’ is the only new song I played at the shows – I wrote it especially and I’m very proud of it. It’s inspired by Jeanette Winterson’s novel Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, which if you know you know, and if you don’t I strongly recommend. The single version is actually the piano take from the soundcheck, and I added new vocals along with a bunch of violins and cellos played by Basia Bartz later at home.”

The two One Night Stand concerts in November 2023 started out as a way to bookend The Atheist album campaign and an entire three-year period of records, tours and festivals, but it ended up as a bookend to Lenman’s entire musical career. The maestro had been planning a piano/vocals concert for about 5 years, since Lenman’s old music teacher Richard Whennell played so beautifully on his 2019 Shuffle album, and after a full year of rehearsals it finally came to pass.

“The idea was to take the best bits from the matinee and the evening show and combine them into a record,” he says of the idea behind making the live release Pay What You Want, “but when I came to mix them I thought they both stood up really well, and since I’d abandoned the idea of a physical release there seemed no reason not to put them both out.”

“I’m hoping the pay-what-you-want option on Bandcamp will provide a clearer idea of what people are willing to spend on music, if that’s ten pounds or one pound or nothing. I don’t make anything from streaming services anyway, so I’m hoping to use any funds that do come in to pay for a studio album somewhere down the line.”

In the eighteen months since his retirement from recording and touring, Lenman has found himself as busy as ever: working on elements for the twentieth anniversary of Reuben’s first album, signing with Ugly Models and launching an acting career (since appearing in a Teddy Swims music video for ‘Guilty’ and an upcoming BBC drama), hosting cabaret shows, and continuing his ongoing work as an illustrator and journalist for Doctor Who Magazine and more.
