Jean Caffeine shares new single ‘I Know You Know I Know’

Jean Caffeine’s latest single is a dreamy ode to riverside revelations, inspired by her deepening connection to nature and the quiet magic of Austin’s Longhorn Dam. Once immersed in a fast-paced nightlife scene, Jean now finds solace in the marshy serenity of Krieg Field, where she goes in search of egrets, herons, and stillness — a ritual she lovingly calls her “Valium and yoga.”

The song’s title stems from a moment shared with her longtime friend Eileen, during one of their many conversations by the dam. When Eileen responded to a heartfelt confession with, “I know you know I know,” the phrase instantly resonated, sparking the seed of a new track rooted in shared secrets, soft laughter, and riverside reflections.

The track brings together Jean’s frequent collaborators, including Josh Robins (The Invincible Czars), Jon Notarthomas (Rubilaters, Ian McLagan), and engineer/co-producer Lars Goransson. Canadian composer Mike Trebilcock (Simply Saucer, The Killjoys) also contributes backing vocals, rounding out the track’s uniquely textured sound.

The accompanying music video features footage of the Colorado River, Longhorn Dam, and Jean herself — shot by Jason Griego Photography — alongside evocative egret stills from Hexel Colorado and single-shot bird video by Kim Bowman. In a moment of delightful chaos, members of Dallas punk band Thyroids make a cameo as a vanload of young men tumbling out in floaties, in a scene captured by Pablo Peña of Channel Planet. Jean recently completed a tour stint with the band, and the clip adds a surreal flashback energy to the video. As ever, she handled the editing and visual artwork herself.

Bio

Jean Caffeine was a first wave San Francisco punk. There she made the scene and made a zine and drummed for an all-female band called the Urge. She moved to NYC where she freelanced as a DJ (Danceteria, The World, Area,  etc) . She was recruited by Ann Magnuson  to drum for Pulsallama, a comedic and chaotic percussion ensemble.  Pulsallama opened five shows for the Clash and were sampled in 2016 by hip hop artist Danny Brown. A live Pulsallama LP came out in 2020 on Yep Roc's Modern Harmonics subsidiary.

A move to Austin re-branded Jean as a front person and songwriter in the y'allternative outfit, ("Miss Alternative Country Before Alternative Country was Cool"-Dallas Morning News) Jean Caffeine's All Nite Truckstop. She shared stages with Lucinda Williams, Mo Tucker, Mojo Nixon,  Mojo Nixon and Rev Horton Heat. She may be the only Austin artist that  shared stages with Townes Van Zandt and Brian Jonestown Massacre. And she kept a beat for RL Burnside on her back porch on Lake Austin Blvd. It was a SXSW day party before there were day parties.

If you look carefully you can see Jean's prone body in Slacker and her a few notes of the intro to her song, "JEsus is Coming Soon to a Theatre Near You". She also contributed animation to the film, "Waking Life".
