Josh Hicks Reveals Stunning New Track 'Eyes On You'

[20th June 2025] Written as a tribute to the people who inspire him most, ‘Eyes on You’ blends Josh’s signature jazz-soul sound with a more mature and forward-looking energy. It’s his first single in three years not produced by long-time collaborator ShatterJack, instead teaming up with rising producer Aston Rudi (Mahalia, Olivia Dean) and co-writer AnderSol

Josh wrapped recording in London on St. Patrick’s Day, ending the session with a pint of Guinness and a sense that this song was something special. With world-wise vocals, warm basslines by Alex Hancox, and lyrics rooted in admiration, ‘Eyes on You’ captures the feeling of standing tall for the ones you love.

Although the track won’t be released until 20th June 2025, it has already been previewed on BBC Radio 2 with DJ Spoony and BBC Radio Wales with Bethan Elfyn, gaining early support from both national and regional tastemakers.

2023 marked a breakthrough year for Josh on the Welsh music scene. His debut single ‘Self Seeking (The Highest Order of Selfishness)’ and follow-up ‘Everything About You’ both landed straight on the BBC Radio Wales A-List, earning widespread airplay and a spot on Apple Music’s New in Pop editorial playlist. He followed these releases with a live EP, Live and Acoustic, showcasing his stripped-back vocal strength and emotional delivery. That same year, Josh made his mark on the live circuit, performing across Wales and opening for Natalie Imbruglia. With 2024 still unfolding, his third single ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’ was championed by BBC Introducing’s Adam Walton and Bethan Elfyn.

After graduating with a First in vocal performance from ACM in Guildford, Josh went on to win the national Open Mic UK competition in 2021, beating over 10,000 entrants. Past winners include Birdy and Lola Young. He has also worked with Emeli Sandé through support from the MS Society. With a contemporary pop sound laced with soul and jazz influences, Josh draws lyrical inspiration from artists like Amy Winehouse, Cole Porter, and Raye, and vocal cues from Adele, Billie Holiday, and Ella Fitzgerald. His songs are deeply personal, rich in character, and grounded in the world around him.
