SEPTEMBER 4thknitting release new single ‘Fold’ via Mint Records ahead of UK and European dates through September and October, including stops supporting fellow Canadian icons Preoccupations (full dates below).

With evocative storytelling and a dry sense of humour, knitting makes guitar driven and lyrically introspective indie rock evoking the nostalgia of 90s alternative rock bands like Pavement, Pixies and Sonic Youth.

Through precise lyricism, brash guitar solos and whispered vocals, knitting brings to life frontperson Mischa Dempsey’s experiences as a 20-something transitioning and working to understand themself in Montreal. At once massive and intimate, knitting are the kind of band you can blast with your friends or listen to alone in your room, when you’re feeling alienated from everything you know — and wondering if anyone else is, too.

New single ‘Fold’ treads this path established by the band - and falls in line with contemporaries such as Forth Wanderers, Wednesday, Slow Pulp in its claustrophobic, cathartic indie-rock stylings. On the lyrical themes, Mischa explains:

“I wrote this song while I was experiencing a wave of social anxiety. I wanted to explore the suspicion that others will always be able to see something about you that you yourself cannot see, and that thus their perception will always be more accurate. Consequently, in this state of mind I find myself turning into a bit of a people-pleaser (something I’m trying to grow out of). This song is my attempt to shake myself out of this way of thinking, and demonstrate to myself how useless this mindset is.”

The accompanying video plays on these themes - dropping Mischa into isolated locations, performing the song with an intensity at odds with the urban stillness around them.

Fold’ follows debut album Some Kind of Heaven which was released in 2024, and spent five weeks at #1 on the Canadian campus radio charts, and earned the band press from Pitchfork, The FADER and Stereogum (Bands To Watch, Best New Artists 2024). The quartet has shared the stage with the likes of Cherry Glazerr, Ovlov and Truth Club, has toured and performed at festivals across North America including The New Colossus Festival and SXSW.
