Lydia May Blends Rock with a Theatrical Flair on new release out now!
London native brings a rockier edge with explosive energy and attitude filled new single
‘DROP DEAD GORGEOUS’
the first release from her highly anticipated debut EP after Eileen Alister tour support
Lydia May is the electrifying Melbourne-born alt-pop rebel fusing rock with theatrical flair. Nurtured by Camden’s indie stages in her teens during her time at the BRIT school, she has captivated her now devoted fanbase ‘Maybelles’ with powerhouse vocals, raw storytelling, and a fearless message of self acceptance. Her new single ‘DROP DEAD GORGEOUS’ is undoubtedly Lydia’s most anticipated to date, having launched the song during her sets supporting Eileen Alister’s UK tour this month, as well as an exclusive fan listening party in London.
‘DROP DEAD GORGEOUS’ marks the first bold step into May’s debut EP, where attitude, honesty, theatrical flair combat feelings of shame and fear. The track is a raw, cathartic middle finger to body standards, eating disorders and self hate, shaking the hand of destructive tendencies with as much fun as possible. The track was produced by Joey Walker (Liang Lawrence) at RYP Recordings.
What Lydia says about the project:
“I’ve felt the pressure to contort my body and mind to feel gorgeous for years. To feel enough, worthy, like I belong. It led me down places of despair with destructive habits that became so familiar they felt like home. I had to come to heads with my health and realise I don’t want to feel small or weak anymore, like I was close to dropping dead. Writing this song was so fulfilling and made me feel HOT. This feels like the first song that aligns with the artist I’ve always wanted to become. One who is bold and unapologetically herself. It’s filled with attitude, my favourite 80s rock influences and of course my inherent theatrical flare. Music is as much cathartic as it is fun for me.”
