MASSIMO SILVERIO

RETURNS WITH 10-MINUTE SUITE 'SORGJÂL', OUT NOW VIA OKUM

Two years after the acclaimed debut album 'Hrudja', Massimo Silverio returns with 'Sorgjâl', a 10-minute suite that lays the foundation for his upcoming second work, due out later this year. In Silverio's music, contemporary and traditional elements merge into an unprecedented continuum where post-rock, trip-hop, and experimentation meet folk sung in Cjarniel—a minority language of the Carnic Alps in Italy. 'Sorgjâl' continues this spiritual and identity-driven exploration, adding new expressive and sonic elements created through the intertwining of strings, horns, bass tuba, synthesisers, ultra-saturated guitars, analog drum machines, and prepared percussion. In Cjarniel, Sorgjâl refers to the dry, amputated stalk of the corn plant—what remains after the harvest. It is a symbol of interruption, of what has decayed.

"Sorgjâl is a song/prayer born of urgency, from the encrusted blackness, hidden and concealed in every voice. It is the Shadow that wishes to be the tallest plant, to dwell higher than every other voice, every other prayer—overshadowing severed purity, claiming it as the mother of its own intentions, yet unable to hear life's lament except when its echo has already faded. The Shadow that believes itself to be reason in its deepest naivety." Massimo Silverio

ABOUT MASSIMO SILVERIO:

Massimo Silverio is a songwriter and musician born and raised in the historical-geographical Italian region of Carnia. He writes and sings primarily in his native language, Carnic—an ancient, mountainous variant of the Friulian language. His music employs a deeply personal idiom made of poetry and sound, blending folk and art music, classical and contemporary, the tangible and the hidden. It conjures an imaginative world of places, souls and plants, faces and ancient rituals. A scholar of traditional Friulian singing—la villotta—he has participated in numerous cultural projects between Friuli and Austria over the years.

His previous album 'Hrudja' received unanimous acclaim from national and international critics alike—Iggy Pop (Iggy Recommends), Mojo (4/5 stars), Clash Magazine (8/10)—and was featured on major international radio stations such as KEXP, FIP France Inter, BBC 6 Music, Radio Capital, and Rai Radio Tre. It was also named one of the best releases of 2023 (Rolling Stone, Rumore, Rockit, Impatto Sonoro), recognition that led to his nomination for the illustrious Italian prize, 2024 Premio Tenco and a lengthy tour across major clubs, theatres, and festivals in Italy, Spain, and Germany.
