Folk troubadour Matt McIvor is ready to share his tales of wonder, woe and worry on his debut album ‘One Word Stories’. It features contributions from Peter Mulvey, Sarah McCreedy, AOIBHA and Lucy Bell.
Drawing upon the mundane and every day, Matt curates anecdotal and emotional experiences in which we can all find ourselves.
Early reviews have been positive with Edwin McFee of the Sunday Life describing it as “An intimate, arresting and unforgettable offering with lots of heart soul and hooks. Easily one of the best albums of the year”.
Nominated for the 2025 Northern Ireland Music Prize, the record brings to life the musings of one of the country’s most talented but underappreciated songwriters.
‘Park’ is a beautiful opener to McIvor’s debut album and features the incredible vocals of Lucy Bell and the drumming talent of Stuart Lunn (Chase the River).
It paints a warm narrative of an afternoon well spent in the park with a friend. There is gossip to be had, wasps to be dodged and dogs to be greeted.
There is some artistic licence in play here as McIvor blurs the lines between memory and imagination. The end result is a dreamy and nostalgic tonic that is sure to conjure up similar fond memories for each listener.
