Breezy iDeyGoke X Art of Algebra Reveal EP “A Quantum Trip”
Afro-Irish artist Breezy iDeyGoke and electronic producer Art of Algebra unveil new 4-track trip-hop EP A Quantum Trip.
October 10th saw the duo return with a bold statement of intent - the release of ‘Felonious Monk’, which combined wordplay, wit and survival against their raw and distinctive sound.
Second single ‘BST’, which was accompanied by a truly mind-bending music video directed by Mark Smyth (who also directed the Shark Award-nominated music video for ‘Praying on a Gamble’), earned strong praise across Irish media, including District, Nialler9, Hot Press, RTÉ 2FM and Genuine Irish, and has been nominated for awards at the Disappear Here Film Festival and Bogotá International Music Video Festival.
Their new EP A Quantum Trip includes another new track - ‘So Many Steps from the End’ (listen here). This is a brooding, bass-heavy track where Breezy reflects on themes of interpersonal relationships, faith and mortality.
The EP concludes with the pair’s first collaboration - ‘Praying on a Gamble’. Art of Algebra says “this made sense to us as it allows our output to date to flow together as one piece of work”. Breezy agrees, saying “it took a while for things to align and for the new material to come together, but there’s continuity in sound and the craftsmanship that has always been there between the two of us”.
Drawing from elements of trip-hop, ambient electronica and alternative hip-hop, the EP is a heady mix of styles, textures and soundscapes with a dark and distinctive edge. “It’s an unusual mix that probably shouldn’t blend together well, but it does for us. I think Breezy does an amazing job of sewing the sounds together and making the whole thing energetic and compelling. His voice and his lyricism match the mood of the production to a T”, Art of Algebra says.
For iDeyGoke, the EP showcases “a different style to what people might be used to” from him, noting how the heavier and darker sounds across the EP opened up his emotional and lyrical range. Carving their distinctive style across the four tracks was central to their aspirations for the project. “Success for us is if someone hears one of our tracks for the first time and says, ‘that’s their style, that’s their sound - I recognise that and I like it’”.
Visuals are central to the collaboration, with iDeyGoke and Art of Algebra putting music videos at the centre of the project with ‘BST’ and ‘Praying On A Gamble’, both directed by Mark Smyth who, according to Art of Algebra, “pushes things to an incredibly high standard”. The pair also worked with filmmaker Fionn Rogers on a live performance video for ‘Felonious Monk’, showcasing their new output in the live context.

The video for ‘Praying on a Gamble’, a collaboration with Afro-Irish MC Breezy iDeyGoke, explores the theme of how Breezy struggled to adapt to social and religious norms in Ireland after arriving from Nigeria as a young child. Directed by Mark JD Smyth, the video was critically acclaimed upon release and was nominated in the Best Director category at the Kinsale Shark Music Video Awards.
Art of Algebra's gigs are accompanied by specially curated visual projections that are fully integrated with his live performance, resulting in a fully immersive and unique audio-visual experience.
