November 4th -  Paige Kennedy (they/them) announces new EP Style Over Substance for February 6th and shares new single ‘Medical Emergency’ today, with a reliably iconic video. The EP will be supported by a headline tour through February.

Leaning into their trademark quirk-pop with a sideways view of life’s trials and tribulations, ‘Medical Emergency’  takes a pretty bleak starting point as the launch pad for an indie-tinged banger. As Paige explains:

“After a life altering breakup, I was sitting in A&E with actual heart problems, feeling sorry for myself. My coping mechanism, has always been leaning into fantasy, silliness and comedy during dark times, which was how Medical Emergency was born. The persona in the track thinks all the nurses fancy them, and has delusions of grandeur.

Musically I was inspired by Tupac, The Cardigans and PJ Harvey. There’s an overconfidence in gangsta rap I wanted to emulate. The sound world of the song is grungy with some silly sound design elements which matches the content.”

The video matches the tone of the track - a larger than life version of Paige and their nurse backing-dancers causing cartoonish chaos.

It follows hot on the heels of ‘Male Friend’ - in which Paige took on the role of a detective figuring out whether the object of their desires was queer as well. With such an eye for wry vignettes, and a whacky, off-the-wall persona - it’s no surprise Paige is building an ever-growing audience through social clips. This online reverence is translating into a killer live plot, and a show which gets feet moving on sticky floors and grassy fields alike.
