Pavey Ark announce second album More Time, More Speed and share single “Yesterday Is Done

Hull-based cinematic indie-folk outfit Pavey Ark will release their second full-length album, More Time, More Speed, on November 21st, 2025. The announcement coincides with the release of the album’s next single, “Yesterday Is Done”, which offers an immersive introduction to the band’s orchestral and time-conscious sound.

Built around singer-songwriter Neil Thomas’s atmospheric vocals and finger-picked acoustic guitar, Pavey Ark’s music is augmented by live strings, horns, melodic bass, and intricate percussion, creating a cinematic folk sound that is both timeless and contemporary. The band’s influences span decades, from the ’60s and ’70s folk of Jackson C. Frank, Rodriguez, Love, and Nick Drake to more contemporary artists such as Andrew Bird, Laura Marling, and Radiohead.

"Yesterday Is Done" opens with eight bars of string quartet before the vocals, horns, bass, and drums join, gradually building into a layered, expansive arrangement. The lyrics begin with a simple apology - “I’m sorry” - which evolves into a broader reflection on letting go of the past and embracing new beginnings. The track’s official video, filmed against Annabel McCourt’s touring art installation I’m Sorry, adds a striking visual resonance to the song’s themes of reflection and emotional release.

Speaking on the single vocalist and songwriter, Neil Thomas said, "'Yesterday is Done' is a song about letting go of the past and looking for new beginnings, so it feels just right releasing this song as we announce the new album. 'Yesterday is Done' is a song that pulses with positivity, and  it definitely feels like an exciting new chapter for the band."

The album was almost entirely self-recorded in a converted farm building near Hull, giving the band a dedicated space to explore the music at their own pace. The surrounding landscape and the rhythm of the working farm subtly informed the album’s atmosphere. Strings were recorded both on the farm and at a Sheffield studio, led by composer and producer Adrian McNally (The Unthanks), who co-produced and mixed three tracks. LA-based producer and vocalist of The Bees, Paul Butler (Michael Kiwanuka, Andrew Bird, Teskey Brother) mixed the remaining tracks, using outboard analogue equipment to bring warmth and space to the arrangements.

Themes of time run through the album from start to finish. Songs like "Out of Here" and "Epoch" explore the tension of time slipping away and humanity’s place in the world, while "The Go Slow" and "Your Sweet Time" consider moments of renewal and clarity. "The Devil’s Time" delves into obsession, procrastination, and the darker side of human experience, all filtered through Pavey Ark’s signature cinematic folk lens.

Speaking further on the album, Thomas says, "It's so exciting to release this new album. It's been a few years in the making, but we've developed so much as a band in that time. The songwriting, arrangements, and live shows are our best yet. We took the full band out to SXSW Texas in March. Playing these new songs live is a joy with the strings and expanded brass section. I can't wait for people to hear the album"
