UK dates to commence next week

Hull’s cinematic indie-folk ensemble Pavey Ark release their long-awaited second album, More Time, More Speed, this Friday - a beautifully crafted and deeply evocative meditation on time, change, and the momentum of modern life. Expansive yet intimate, the album sees the band refine their distinctive orchestral-folk sound into their most ambitious and immersive work to date.

Built around the atmospheric vocals and finger-picked guitar of songwriter Neil Thomas, the record unfolds with strings, horns, melodic bass and intricate percussion, creating a warm, cinematic sound world that feels both timeless and contemporary. From the euphoric apocalyptic surge of recent single “Epoch” to the slow-thaw optimism of “The Go Slow” and the stirring release of “Yesterday Is Done”, the album captures the elastic, elastic and evasive nature of time itself - stretching, looping, vanishing, and returning with new meaning.

Recorded almost entirely by the band in a converted farm building just outside Hull, More Time, More Speed carries the quiet atmosphere of its surroundings: shifting seasons, distant machinery, the rhythm of working land. The result is an album that feels lived-in and deeply human. Strings were recorded both on the farm and at a Sheffield studio under the direction of Adrian McNally (The Unthanks) - who also co-produced and mixed three tracks — while the remaining songs were mixed in Los Angeles by Paul Butler (Michael Kiwanuka, Andrew Bird, Teskey Brothers), whose analogue approach adds warmth, glow and dimension to the band’s intricate arrangements.

The release follows several milestone years for Pavey Ark. Known for their mesmerising live shows, the band have performed at SXSW Texas 2025, Glastonbury (Acoustic Stage, 2022), and Cambridge Folk Festival (2023, closing Stage 3), as well as supporting This Is The Kit, Badly Drawn Boy, Willy Mason, Billie Marten, Wild Beasts and Steve Mason. Their debut, Close Your Eyes and Think of Nothing, earned praise from UNCUT (“a striking debut”), Folk Radio, BBC 6 Music and Record Collector, with several reviewers calling it “beautiful,” “sublime,” and “a modern classic.”

If the debut introduced a band of quiet ambition, More Time, More Speed reveals a band in full bloom. Songs twist and broaden with unexpected turns, guided by Thomas’s introspective, subtly piercing lyrical voice and the rich orchestrations of violinist and arranger Chris Heron. Themes of love, loss, renewal, obsession, and the weight, or gift, of time recur throughout, forming a loose narrative of reflection and release.

Pavey Ark’s ability to pair delicate songwriting with cinematic scope places them in the lineage of artists such as Andrew Bird, Laura Marling, Nick Drake, Fleet Foxes, Love, Aldous Harding, and I Am Kloot, while remaining unmistakably their own.

With its warmth, patience and ambition, More Time, More Speed is a record made for listeners who want to sink in deeply - an album that rewards time, even as it explores how strange and elusive time can be.
