Pearl Charles announces new album 'Desert Queen' out May 30th with stunning first single 'Just What It Is' out now, ahead May/June UK Tour Dates

The one and only Pearl Charles returns with a smouldering new track,  ‘Just What It Is’, taken from her forthcoming album Desert Queen out May 30th. Listen HERE

A sultry song of self-forgiveness, Pearl describes ‘Just What It Is’ as “a wistful tale of days gone by and small town parades viewed from train car windows set to a sparkling sonic folk image with soft focused, Vaseline-lensed vocal harmonies”.

Desert Queen is produced by Lewis Pesacov (Best Coast, Local Natives, FIDLAR), recorded in Los Angeles and mixed by Michael Rault in Joshua Tree.

Tim Burgess features on ‘Gone So Long’, a classic rock song that effortlessly recalls Fleetwood Mac.

While making the album Pearl moved from her LA hometown to the desert where she now lives in Joshua Tree. “The themes on the record go hand and hand with the reasons for my move,” Pearl explains. “As much as I love the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, I found a definite sense of disillusionment with city life.

Stylistically, Desert Queen sonically expands on the disco, funk and soft rock explored on her last album Magic Mirror.

Although I left the city, I wanted to carry the tradition of my favourite female Angeleno writers – Eve Babitz and Joan Didion- into my desert life and carry the torch of that perspective into this new landscape,” Pearl says.

The results are nothing short of intoxicating and can be heard live when she returns to Europe this summer. Tickets available HERE
