Following the release of their debut album The Bliss in late 2024, the band received featured album honours from Aussie tastemaker radio Triple J for their debut record all release week, with lead single ‘Givin’ It Up’ out now on all good streaming platforms, along with an official video.
Commenting on the track, the band say: “‘Givin’ It Up’ tells the story of South Summit! Illuminating the everyday life for us, sharing the best of times where we, as a band, find ourselves at our happiest. We cherish blissful vibes and whanau, and really capture the feeling of sharing stories and having a jam in the backyard over a couple drinks and a bbq. This is elevated through reggae chops and singalong melodies where everyone can feel a part of what makes us, South Summit. The things we give up and the sacrifices we make to reap certain rewards, come in all different shapes and sizes. But at the end of the day, we can all relate to what we are sacrificing for.”
Following the announcement of their inclusion on The Great Escape lineup, the band will be heading to the music conference from 14th of May, before playing their first UK headline shows in Cornwall, London and Manchester, along with two dates in the Netherlands.
It’s been a big year for the WA 5-piece; performing on triple J’s Like A Version back in October 2024; playing shows all across Australia and beyond, including a support tour with The Cat Empire across Europe and festival appearances at Vivid, Big Pineapple Festival, Blues At Bridgetown and more; announcing their biggest headline tour for Australia and New Zealand for February 2025; and now the release of their highly anticipated debut album The Bliss.
The album, which was the featured album on triple J all week on release, features 12 tracks of Reggae-infused indie rock that perfectly encapsulates the band’s wide-ranging influences and air-tight song writing abilities.
With The Bliss being South Summit’s first studio record, the impact of this album as being a statement of intent from the group was not lost on the band. From album opener ‘Take Me Down’, to the pop-flecked standout ‘Catacombs’ and decadent moments of pure jamming in ’Holy Cascade’ and ‘We Are The Lions’, this is an album that is unafraid to level up and take South Summit outside their comfort zone.
The album made an impact immediately, with strong support from radio, press and DSPs alike Down Under. The band have found themselves overwhelmed with gratitude following the response, as all of their hard work finally came to fruition.
"The release of The Bliss is such a milestone for us and it feels like a real pinch me moment,” they say. “We're so overwhelmed and grateful for all the amazing feedback and support with the success of the album. Definitely feeling the love!”
