“this downtempo ballad showcases Fountain’s signature folk-noir style, simmering with tension and mystery.” Rolling Stone Australia
“...digging in deep with noirish synths and smouldering trip-hop grooves.” Under the Radar
“Come Down” is the lead single from the forthcoming album How Love Bends by prominent New Zealand songwriter Reb Fountain due out on 30 May* via Fountain Records/Flying Nun. A finalist for Single of the Year at the Aotearoa Music Awards, “Come Down” is an anthemic pop hit with a downbeat swagger that conjures the feeling you get when out on the town with your crew. In the ecstatic blur of the moment, you're reminded that you are born free, that you don’t have to be someone else to belong and that shining your light no matter how fragmented, broken or beautiful it is, brings joy and connection and hope. “Come Down” feels fresh and nostalgic, expansive yet restrained.
Celebrating platonic love, the video for “Come Down” features real life best friends, her daughter Lola Fountain-Best and Eve Armstrong-Coop, and was shot by Reb herself. The video invites us to share in their love story over one night; a deep and heartfelt connection that brings joy and solace that helps one navigate the journey. “Come Down” oozes mellifluous pop, imagined by the fearless, unapologetic and mystical Reb Fountain. A coming of age journey, seemingly tracing her evolution in one night, “Come Down” invites us along for the ride , wherever it may take us.
Produced by Dave Khan (Marlon Williams) and Simon Gooding (Pink), the album How Love Bends (due out on vinyl/CD 30 May via Fountain Records/Flying Nun) showcases Reb’s poetic depth and signature sound. Joined by longtime bandmates Dave Khan (guitar/keys), Karin Canzek (bass), and Earl Robertson (drums), the album dives into the transformative nature of love in all its forms—its tenderness, its power, its chaos. Unapologetic, vulnerable, heartbroken and commanding; this is How Love Bends.
Reb’s surrealist storytelling harnesses the sage wisdom of the dream, guiding listeners through limitless explorations of love, life, and loss within a landscape entirely of her making. Her love is the stuff of chaos and oceans, vulnerability and revolution; stirring the depths of the human condition and dancing with the richness of who we really are.
“Don’t You Know Who I Am” (2020) is Reb Fountain’s most acclaimed song but you’d be excused for not knowing who Reb Fountain is. Her two previous albums were both released during lockdowns; her Flying Nun debut Reb Fountain (2020) won the Taite Music Prize and the successful follow-up IRIS (2021) debuted at number 1 in the NZ charts. Critically acclaimed back home, her international reach was doubly thwarted making her New Zealand’s best kept secret. Yet turn on the recently released BBC documentary Escaping Utopia about the New Zealand cult Gloriavale, and you’ll find that Reb Fountain’s music is the backdrop to this award winning series, featuring songs from her back catalogue as well as being co-composer of the score with Andrew Keoghan, earning them the prestigious New Zealand Television Images & Sound award for Best Original Score 2024.
Dig a little deeper and you’ll discover that Reb is an award winning artist and has worked extensively with Neil Finn and toured with Crowded House. A consummate recording artist and performer, Reb Fountain has captivated audiences with her electrifying live performances, supporting Marlon Williams on his 2022 tour across UK and Europe, sharing stages with the likes of The Chills and Finn Andrews (The Veils) and selling out her own headline shows across New Zealand in some of the country’s most iconic theatres. Her shows are known for their intensity and theatricality, drawing audiences into a world that is equal parts intimate and powerful. She is the woman behind the Save our Venues NZ campaign that started a global trend and Artist for Ceasefire NZ. On the cusp of the release of her new album, How Love Bends, Reb Fountain is an enigma worth unravelling.
“New Zealand’s next alt-folk sensation” (Mojo 4*s)
"'How Love Bends’ is a significant step forward in her discography in New Zealand and positioning her for a place on the international stage.” (13th Floor)
“I watched Reb Fountain prowling across the stage like Patti Smith and Cat Power one-minute, Nick Cave living his best life the next. Reb was a revelation.” (Stuff)
“Slinking around the stage like a cat, Reb is what would happen if Stevie Nicks and Kate Bush were to collide, her folky punk sound and stage presence has the audience captivated.” (Music Crowns)
