Riley Marsh shares single ‘Castle Made Of Sand’
“Phenomenally talented” “brilliant track” - Dean Jackson BBC introducing
“I was quite shocked at just how good he was” - Rock News Magazine
Riley Marsh is the 19 year old Derby / Nottingham based singer / songwriter / musician who is bringing to the forefront his unique mix of 90’s Alt Rock, Grunge and Folk sounds.
Having been heavily featured on BBC Introducing in the East Midlands, with regular plays and opportunities coming from Dean Jackson (Opening up the 3500 capacity Venue, Vaillant Live in Derby for BBC Introducing), Riley has also played Festivals such as Y-NOT, Dot to Dot, Eyes Have It, Gate To Southwell and Beat The Streets Festival.
Further accomplishments include supporting The Rosadocs at The Loft in Matlock, supporting Martin Harley (the well known UK Americana Blues artist) and supporting former Inspiral carpets lead singer Tom Hingley on various occasions.
On his latest release “Castle Made of Sand” which was written and composed by Riley Marsh and features him on Guitar and lead Vocals, he is also joined by Art Marshall on Drums and Alfie Reeves on Bass guitar.
‘Castle Made Of Sand’ is a stunning offering from Riley Marsh with its paired back instrumentals in the opening verse really giving focus to the crisp precision of the vocals. The track picks up pace thereafter adding a layered and varied soundscape with more of a spotlight being given to the instruments at play, before there is a definitive change of tone in the mid section bringing things down a pace or two before the rousing melody picks up once more taking the track to its conclusion.
Everyone featured on this track knows their role to play and it's clear that every little detail of the production has been well planned and thought out resulting in a very catchy song that seems to come effortlessly with a certain raw charm to it, something that is very difficult to master in recorded tracks.
The song takes inspiration from artists like Jeff Buckley, Pavement and The Smashing Pumpkins and given Riley’s previous passionate and energetic live performances, we can see this track quickly becoming a firm fan favourite when performed live.
Riley has said of the track:-
“Castle Made of Sand is about being afraid to commit to someone who’s committed to you. You find yourself overthinking everything to the point where you don’t even trust yourself.
It represents a slight shift in style to a more alt rock/grunge sound which has always been a style that I've loved.”
“Castle Made of Sand” was recorded at Eiger Studios in Leeds and was mixed/engineered by Dom Richmond.
