SAKARA releases new single ‘Sunflower’

Sakara is an indie-folk singer-songwriter penning quietly subversive lyrics on self-worth, identity, and relationships while navigating disability and chronic illness.

After a summer of gigs including Cambridge Folk Club’s annual folk day & a slot at Glastonbury’s Rumshack stage, she is excited to be back releasing music, with the second in a run of singles leading towards her first EP. Sunflower’s ‘Live Version’ is already available on Youtube, and the music video will be released after the full track is out.

‘Sunflower’ was written back in 2020, as an ode to friendship from afar while sending sunflower seeds and cat photos in the post, and remains relevant to anyone juggling an appreciation for the life you’ve got, with the inevitable disappointments of your 20s, which are never all Sunflower fields and instagrammable golden hours.

The new track continues themes of grappling with the life you’re promised, versus making the best of the one you’ve got, that Sakara explored in her debut single, This is Reality (released 13.03.25) which was supported by BBC introducing Cambridgeshire & Essex, Cambridge Radio and Songs Behind The Music on Future Hits radio.

Based near Cambridge, UK, Sakara continues to work with local musician & producer Francis Botcherby [of band Parliament of Wolves], draping reflective sentiment and story telling in layers of textured guitar, and delicate harmonies.

“This song has a way of comforting me, not just as a reminder of my friend (whose cats I managed to name-drop!), but by saying there’s hope in times of loss and disappointment. At the end of that chorus I’m still dancing, still asking “will you shine for me”? And every year the Sunflowers come back and follow through.”
