SASAMI shares a new version of Blood On The Silver Screen standout “Just Be Friends” featuring Soccer Mommy titledJust Be Friends (Soccer Mommy Version).” The track, which upon its release FLAUNT called “everything a sad pop song should be: chantable, relatable, and endlessly catchy,” finds a new groove with Soccer Mommy’s vocals anchoring it.

Of the collaboration, SASAMI says “When I was working on Blood On the Silver Screen, I found myself returning to country often. I listened to Dolly, Johnny, Patsy, Merle and even a lot of the modern country that I had previously dismissed. Country songs have to be some of the most effective and cutting examples of peak pop songwriting- wit, drama, humor, sadness, and the most human of all- horniness. My song ‘Just Be Friends,’ was definitely inspired by modern country, but I knew if I wanted it to be truly authentic I would need to enlist an actual southern princess. This new version featuring Soccer Mommy, pedal steel and all, delivers on the country magic that I had always wished could be in that song. That’s the best part about collaboration, all hat all cattle.” "Sasami is such an amazing artist - and person - and I’m so glad she asked me to be on this remix,” Soccer Mommy adds.

Hot on the heels of having wrapped up live dates with Wednesday, Toro y Moi, Mannequin Pussy, and Se So Neon, SASAMI will be supporting King Princess on the road on an US tour that kicks off this weekend in Nashville, TN. All dates below.

On Blood On the Silver Screen, released earlier this year, the California-based polymath combined her classical conservatory-trained skills as a player, producer, and composer with her fearless and bombastic stage persona to create her most realized music to date: the all-out SASAMI pop record. Working with co-producers Jenn Decilveo and Rostam, with SASAMI as sole writer, each Blood On the Silver Screen track viscerally captures a different thread of love, sex, power, and embodiment. “Pop music is like fuel,” Sasami says. “It’s just invigorating.” Eschewing today’s pop zeitgeist, Sasami gravitated towards late aughts and 2010s pop a la Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, plus Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, and Sia. She was influenced by modern country storytelling, mixing vulnerability with humor, and the mood board also included Prince, Japanese city pop, and the stadium-sized, denim-clad iconography of Bruce Springsteen.
