Ex-Factory Records post-punk legends Section 25 are pleased to announce a new AA side digital single, with ‘Move On’/’Back In The Day’ (Outernationale Remix) released 4th June 2025 via 9x9 Records.
To celebrate the release, the duo will play a special release show on 6th June at Rough Trade, Liverpool, with tickets on sale now.
The pair recently released their 10th studio album Move On via 9x9 Records in 2024, with the limited edition box set now sold out, but available on various other formats here.
Section 25 have built a lasting legacy as one of the most important British bands in electronic music, although younger audiences may now be familiar with their work through its extensive sampling, including by Kanye West—the track ‘Hit’ from their 1981 album Always Now was sampled on ‘FML’, featured on his seventh studio album, The Life of Pablo. The band were also namechecked in LCD Soundsystem’s breakout single ‘Losing My Edge’.
Originally formed in Blackpool, Lancashire in 1977 as a duo of brothers Larry and Vincent Cassidy, they are best known for their work with iconic Manchester label Factory Records. Fusing elements of post-punk, electro and synth-pop their sound is unmistakable and timelessly influential.
Their debut 7″, Girls Don't Count, was released in July 1980 on Factory Records, produced by Ian Curtis and Rob Gretton of Joy Division. Their debut LP, Always Now, appeared in 1981 and was produced by Martin Hannett (Joy Division, New Order, The Durutti Column) at Britannia Row studio.
Joined by percussionist Lee Shallcross, the band shifted towards pioneering electronic-dance music, leading to their 1984 album From the Hip and the remix single ‘Looking From A Hilltop’, produced by Bernard Sumner of New Order.
After several reincarnations over the years, as of 2020 the band are now once more a duo again, just as they began, consisting of founding member Vincent Cassidy and long time collaborator Steven Stringer. The pair’s 2024 album Move On has optimism at its core. It’s a reflection of the past and a meditation on the present; emotionally engaging with the here and now by understanding what has passed.
