SickRichard release fourth single ‘Nothing Is Easy’ ahead of debut LP
London, UK Post-punk/alternative rock trio SickRichard have released Nothing Is Easy, the fourth single from their upcoming debut album, across all streaming platforms.
A dark soundtrack to a midnight drive in a dystopian city. That cuts through rain-lashed streets at high speed, searching for meaning amongst the chaos and debris. Nothing Is Easy is the 4th single release from an upcoming LP and one of the heaviest and most intoxicating songs on it. It exists somewhere between a surreal opiated nightmare; standing on the ledge of a looming, futuristic cityscape and waking out of it, coming back to consciousness with a jolt like you’ve just suffered a night terror.
With chugging metallic guitars, snaking bass, tribal drums and a whirring traffic of synths, for fans of bands like Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, The Cure, as well as more recent incarnations of post-punk and alt rock.
It originated during lockdown, a track where “pretty much everything was difficult to finish.” It began as an arpeggiated synth line, sound effects and an electronic beat that sounded "like the Knight Rider theme tune if Hasselhoff had been more goth.” Sent from drummer Steve to Sam the singer/guitarist and the bass/keys man Ed, the edgy track was hard to develop from the eerie, discordant experimentalism of the early versions of the track. Looking back, however, it was one of the songs that sparked a creative surge forward for the band during lockdown, opening up a more experimental path towards songwriting.
Nothing eventually came together in the two years that followed through rehearsals, with some variations and further programming whilst being tried out during live performances. It was finally recorded at Courtyard Studios, Oxford, produced by Ian Davenport in Autumn 2024, and later mastered by Kramer. It was an attempt to create a dark, atmospheric rock song out of a moody soundscape. It's a searching song, relentless and full of doubt. It sounds like it could be the music set to a battle between a flight or fight response as fear engulfs someone and they seek to escape it, seeking relief to quieten the deafening noise of the engines inside their heads. Staring into the abyss, feeling the call of the void, but eventually making it through a journey of the unknown and coming out the other side changed.
The song will appeal to the disillusioned; anybody who has questioned reality and searched for deeper meaning, desiring to go beyond the conventional to find it. As well as people who have had to deal with personal issues such as substance abuse and existential dread and purpose. People who follow similar hard rock and alternative music will be immersed in the sound and themes: it is edgy and dark, but deep and thought-provoking.
Nothing Is Easy was released on all streaming platforms in May 2025. The band will be performing a live streaming fundraiser for War Child UK to be released in the coming weeks, with additional live appearances to be announced soon.
