SINGLE REVIEW: Black Budget – Grump

‘Grump’ erupts with a girthy, booming intro that immediately sets the tone for what follows — a surge of pulsating punk energy that wastes no time tearing through the speakers. Black Budget dive straight into hardcore territory here: snarling vocals, thunderous drums, and frenzied guitars combine to create something rampant, raging, and absolutely unapologetic. It’s frantic, ferocious, and built with an intensity that never feels hollow or contrived.

The track thrives on chaos, but it’s not one-dimensional. Beneath the grit and aggression, there are flickers of craft that elevate the whole thing beyond pure brute force. A proggy moment slips unexpected tension into the mix, bending the rhythm just enough to keep the listener off balance. The drum solo that follows injects even more dynamism, a rapid-fire burst that feels like the room narrowing around you.

Then comes the brief guitar groove skit — a momentary sidestep that adds colour and personality before the track slams back into its heavier form. It’s a blink-and-you-miss-it flash of character, the kind of playful experimentation that gives the song greater depth without softening its bite. There’s even a quick glint of futuristic edge right before the final section detonates.

By the end, ‘Grump’ closes on a full snarl of fury — a final exhale that captures everything the track embodies: anger, momentum, and a refusal to hold anything back.

This is hardcore punk done well. Not just loud or aggressive for the sake of it, but sharpened by fleeting, unexpected moments that add dimension to the chaos. Black Budget pour everything into ‘Grump’, and the result is a raging, compelling riot of sound that hits hard and leaves scorch marks behind.
