SINGLE REVEW: Black Opal - History
Four piece Belfast Rock Band construct Black Opal, which are in essence melodic riffs, pulsating rhythms, and bright silky vocals infused with peace and hope manifesto and musical arrangements of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, But pulling forth modern inspiration of indie- Brit rock and folk.
History is the third Single release but final track on debut album Divine Accusations, an album that portrays iconic forceful cunch in its guitars, ground-shaking grooves and rhythms, and clean, light soaring vocals and unforgettable elevated solos.
History takes on a much subdued feeling, slowing down, stripping back and enlightening the musical elements. The repetitive arpeggiated guitar melody gleams backed with a light steady beat and warm rolling bass that takes central stage. The vocals shine through this, with heartfelt, reflected lyrics with supporting golden harmony vocals.
It’s such a wonderfully intimate and open song, it feels romantic and relishes in a good memory. It’s saying despite what has happened. It is perfect in its entirety; the good, the bad and the neutral. It is to be left alone, and it is encouraged to move forward to the future and discover what’s new.
It’s a song to embrace all the things that make up a person, or people. It’s both a little sad and joyful.
The sudden shift takes the track up a notch and uplifts with a subtle bite, creating the ideal peak, it feels somewhat angelic and peaceful, the perfect track to end the perfect album on warm lullaby farewells.
